I was wondering if I could obtain your opinions of where to stay near South Wharf in Melbourne. I have stayed at Hilton South Wharf a number of times however will be coming back to Melbourne for a mixture of business and pleasure, and so was wondering what would be a better place to stay since the current prices of the hotels are similar, with the HSW coming $100 dearer than Crown. I currently have HHonors Gold which may bias my decision slightly, however the other half is suggesting the cheaper Crown. Can any of you help me solve my dilemma?

Crown Metropol is a better hotel by a large margin over HSW in my opinion. Better rooms, better staff and better service.

Stayed at both. Crown Metropole is the winner out of those two. Hilton is just that little bit too far down for holiday...

When are you travelling and what sort of room are you booking which is $100 less expensive than HSW?

Def the Metropol. Hilton is nice enough, but just too far away. Metropol is even pushing it, distance wise.

The Pool / Gym area in the Crown Metropol has, IMHO the best view of any gym in Austraila. Panoramic views toward the MCG and back over the Port Melbourne side. If that's your thing. It's also really close to the #96 / #112 trams etc, so transport is easy to City - Carlton << >> St Kilda - Albert Park

All depends.
If the OH is going to be shopping at DFO... then HSW

HSW is only a walk over the bridge to nearest tram stop, although it is only a single line and not direct to StKilda)

And if as Gold you get EL access (not guaranteed but a decent strike rate in the Hilton thread) then that is worth a bit
