Anyone stayed here yet?

Hotel is only a couple of months old - looks good from Tripadvisor reviews.

Thinking about it for a stay coming up.

I've not stayed there as yet but recommend getting advice/reviews on Hong Kong accomodation from other sources - my experience with Tripadvisor in Hong Kong is that there is a lot of false posting going on.

Try priceline dot com as they only allow people who booked through them to add reviews on hotels. Good luck.

I checked in tonight for my first stay

Hotel is only a couple of months old - looks good from Tripadvisor reviews.

Thinking about it for a stay coming up.

Looks good so far. No complaints except the taxi wanted to drop me off across the road, but that is not the hotel's fault. I was upgraded from a standard room booking (lower floors) to an upper floor corner room with race-course and city views.

The room is modern with a large LCD TV, quite large room with modern bathroom. A nice touch is the USB charger mounted in the wall next to the internet and video input for the TV (VGA and composite).

Thanks for the review. I'm giving it a try this Thu (are you still in HKG then?) and again next Thu.

It looks very full this Thu night with only club floor availability. Price has been creeping up for next Thu as well, so it will likely be full again.

The 5000 bonus points / stay (for an additional $HK1500+taxes) looks like a good promo if staying one night (less than $0.004/point), although I haven't booked that promotion.

Any ideas if they'll allow a very early check-in? (8am arrival from HEL).

Yes, it seems to vary greatly depending one demand. I look for pricing at less than HK$1500 as being reasonable. but with HI Express at <HK$900 (including internet and breakfast), I find it difficult to justify CP prices.

The large LCD screen is nice, but I find the choice of TV channels better at HIX (discovery at both, but Nat Geographic only at HI).

I suggest asking the hotel directly. They seem to understand they are in a competitive environment. Send an email or call directly t let them know you will be arriving early. I would expect no problems with dropping bags early and heading off for a day;s sightseeing. But if they know you are arriving early, I expect they will do their best to accommodate an early check-in.

I stayed there shortly after the opening last year. I found it far superior to HIE and was easily able to justify that price difference, so I guess it is all a question of personal preference. Or "horses for courses" as seems right at that location. The pool and bar on the roof I thought really good. The highlight for me was the club, if you can get in there. It was as good as any non IC club in the chain. At least at that point they were giving free club access to IC Royal Ambassadors in an attempt to lure them away from the ICs so it may be worth asking. And if you like walking or running, the racecourse next door is open in the mornings and is good fun.

Keep an eye on the Intercontinental Grand Stamford. (as opposed the just the intercontinetal).

We stayed there back in October @ HK$1100/nt, HIX was ~$1000 so well worth it. CP wasnt yet open at that stage, and the Intercontinental was >HK$2300. Got a free upgrade to harbour view room too.....

Also, very impressed with HIX in Stuttgart. Great price, basic, clean and tidy, but far from fancy. But for a short stay, more than adequate. Free breakfast too....

I agree its a MUCH nicer hotel than HIX. I have very much enjoyed my stay. But I still find it hard to justify the extra price. I do not have club lounge access as that price was way over the budget for the trip. For this project, most of the team are staying at a different hotel with a good negotiated corporate rate. I can stay at HIX for less than the rate the others are paying, especially when taking into account the included internet access. CP is more expensive than the negotiated corporate rate so unfortunately I doubt I can justify it for future stays . Likely to be back to HIX for me, which is not quite as nice as the other hotel being used, but is more conveniently located.

Well I've now stayed there...

The hotel is nice, and the rooms well thought out (in the most part!). The Ipod dock and various other AV input plugs is a nice touch - as is the "mobile phone" in your room that you can use while in Hong Kong.

Though, as a PC Plat - I don't think I got any recognition at all during my stay. Room seemed like what I booked (was put on a middle floor), no welcome amenity etc etc.

I have another stay coming up, so assuming I keep the booking and don't move back to the HIX I can try them again and see if they do any better.

The HIX is definately in a better location. Even though the CP is still close to Causeway Bay station, it just feels difficult to get to (although only about 5 mins from Times Square).

Now having stay #2.

Was upgraded to a Club room, with racecourse views (a great view btw!). I think they're being a little tricky with the upgrade though as no club access was mentioned, I think I was told that I was upgraded to an Executive room and I only have a plain door key - not a gold tinged one. (Normally the club rooms have Gold keys I believe).

Not going to try for club access. Have other things I need to do tonight, and a pretty early flight tomorrow morning.

But think it is interesting how many hotels are moving towards a "no lounge access when upgraded" type of system.

Have to agree 120% with you there - have stayed at IC Grand Stamford twice now - and been mightily impressed each time: Club room (used both city and Harbour views) makes the most of everything - and with free internet in the room and also those superb afternoon teas, happy hours etc - makes the few extra $ well worth it. Even their cheapest double bed rooms are large - friend booked into one of those and she is finnicky but was impressed.

By comparison (fair or not) - have stayed at Sheraton lounges in London - tiny, cramped, and stingy for what you get - and doesn't even guarantee you a quiet room!
