Hello,
I guess the subject says it all. Three of us are booked to fly from Brisbane to Sydney in three week's time. Our cruise has been cancelled so if we cancel our Red e-Deal flights, will our money be returned or will it be sucked up in fees?
Many thanks,
J

We are in a similar situation. I haven’t heard that our cruise is cancelled yet but expect it to be cancelled. I have a previous experience with Qantas vouchers that has completely destroyed what little respect I had for Qantas Customer Service. Therefore, if I have to cancel or postpone my flights (Brisbane Sydney), fees are almost certain to eat up more than the value. I have a voucher from a cancellation last year (approx. $1000). Unfortunately, along with $95 change fee, the process that Qantas takes to use a voucher discriminates against their own vouchers. That is, you cannot just use a voucher to pay at the end of a booking, you have to go through a process where Qantas dictates the fares they will charge, completely excluding any discount fares (even though the total fare would be higher than the original fare). In other words, they discriminate against their own voucher holders.

After many attempts to obtain help from Qantas, it seems I am better off just waiting for cheaper fares to a desired destination and letting the voucher lapse.

Unfortunately, lifetime gold means nothing when trying to retrieve a voucher.

Good luck.

The fees for Red E Deals tend to suck up pretty much every benefit in cancelling but on the other hand the prices are cheap to start with. That's the risk.

I think it is $99 these days for domestic; still there's generally some residual value in a BNE/SYD fare.

With the original red e-deals, no cancellation, no changes, no refund and no value if not flown as booked.

Well thanks everyone. You'd think they'd be a bit kinder given that we didn't make the decision to cancel the cruise, and there's not much point in flying to Sydney one way! Oh well, I'm happy to report that Princess has not only fully refunded our trip but have also given us a generous cruise credit for a future cruise. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is a good reason to take a cruise holiday.

Or - not as in this case!

Celebrity have now cancelled cruises but only US based ones. Currently there are people flying to Florida from the West Coast completely unaware their cruise has been cancelled.

Ouch! Well maybe stick with Princess cruises lol.
Next time go with NCL. Our cruise was cancelled; full refund, future cruise credit and up to $600 on airline change fees. Have already received the refund, change fees expected to take a little longer.
