My wife and I are in kl for 4 days, India 10 days and Doha a week. So is it best to carry Aussie dollars and buy the relevant currency until we run out and then use our band card or buy a traveled card. Where is it best to change money , at the airport as you leave australa or say whe you get to KL and buy Malaysian money with my Aussie dollars, either at the KL airport or at a KL bank.

There is no real correct answer. Different people do it different ways.

I'd have to think about KL as it is about 30 years since I have been there. Most places I try and have a little cash and then simply use my ATM card and withdraw cash from an ATM after arrival. I don't like the fees but mostly it is still better than the ripoff cash card rates.

I used my 28Degrees card in KL last month with no ATM fee. Cash is also good but the small currency dealers seem to offer signficantly better rates than the bigger players.

In my opinion you should never exchange currency in Australia, unless you enjoy paying at least 10% for the priviledge!
