After I get back from Melbourne tomorrow night, I will be 5 SCs short of becoming a WP for the first time (insert sound of sarcastic applause from family that doesn't see the point).

Anyway, my membership anniversary date is 30 November, ie this Friday. My summary page on QF's site reads: "Additional Status credits required by 30 Nov 2007 to attain Platinum".

I will be travelling up to BNE on Friday to earn the remaining points. My question is - will points earned during my flight on Friday AM be counted? In other words, does QF cut off/reset the SCs at, say, midnight on 30 November or at midnight the day before? What does "by 30 Nov" actually mean? If necessary I will fly to BNE the night before to ensure that these points are counted.

Does anyone have any experience with how this rule operates? I called QF but apparently only the QFF people can give me the definitive answer and they don't work weekends, and I want to book my flights to BNE today...

I was going to be in the same position to obtain SG level and spoke to the QFF staff a little while ago and they assured me that it meant actually earnt by the end of 30 Nov.

Fortunately work came through and I had  to do some extra flights and easily made it. Funnily enough I also flew to BNE to get my level, in the morning as a PS and the return trip that afternoon was as a SG.

Congrats on your imminent WP status.

Thank you Hvr. That does sound right...but it's good to have it confirmed. :)

It's based on the scheduled departure time of you milestone flight.

If your flight departs on Friday 30th and it's eligible to earn SC's (minimum of 10) you should become a WP for the ensuing 12 months.

This would normally happen automatically, even if the points/SC's post some days later. If not, a simple call to QFF should do the trick.

Congratulations on WP! :D

Thanks serfty! It has taken me a couple of years to build up to this point, and as you can see I am only just going to scrape through this year. It will be interesting requalifying next year. At this stage I believe I have enough flights in the pipeline to sustain WP so long as things don't change dramatically in the next few months.

Homer, on most domestic flights I have taken on QF, the points have posted within the day to my account.

Case in point, I flew BNE/SYD/MEL on Thursday and MEL/SYD/BNE on Friday PM. The outbound flights had posted by Friday midday (when I checked my account) and the inbound by 8.30am yesterday (Sat).

I'm flying BNE/SYD tomorrow PM and will check when I hit my CBD hotel, to see if it's posted.

An immininent welcome to Plat status and may Mrs Homer enjoy your new found status - Mrs LW does  .

Congratulations. :) If all goes to plan, I'll be joining you as a first-time WP one day later. :)

It's funny the way travel plans work out. Last year I missed WP by ~165 SC's and thought this year I wouldn't even get close. Now I'll easily get to WP, and may just fall short of (or just make, depending on the YUP/KUPs) PG. :)

Cheers, and enjoy the F lounges. :D

Congratulations Homer.

Qualification on the very last day of your membership year - good effort!!

I believe JohnK also achieved something similar this year too?

Not quite as risky. I achieved it with 4 days to spare on the MEL-SYD flight back from Ozfest IV and finished on 1400 SCs exactly. ;)

Risky??? Hey...I thought all the advice was that it is risk free qualifying on the final day? ;)

I would have loved to be able to qualify exactly and avoid wasting any SCs (my return flight from BNE isn't until the weekend, so it's in next year's quota) however I will be "sacrificing" 15 SCs in the pursuit of WP as I only need 5....

I know the feeling, but just think of them as lifetime SC's. :)

It would be nice to be able to choose when to reset your SC counter though. I re-jigged some flights today so that I should make PG if all goes to plan. Thing is, I'd really rather put those extra 700 SC's towards the 1,200 I'll need to retain WP next year! Ahh well, will be a nice little gift to my parents (girlfriend hardly ever travels solo, so better to give it to my parents). :)

Cheers,
- Febs.

You are right Febs. Also congratulations in advance on achieving WP yourself on 1 December! PG will be a nice Christmas surprise for your parents.

And, if you subscribe to the theory that Qantas averages SC"s out when trying to work out if to comp you automatically, then they may come in handy then as well... (Note that it's an unproven theory!)

True but a few things have happened to me recently, like food poisoning, turning up late for flights, delayed flights, and I won't leave Platinum qualification flights until the last day.

I timed Platinum qualification to perfection last time as I was going to fall 30 SCs short and did a quick SYD-CBR-MEL-SYD a couple of weeks before my scheduled final flights. I was going to try to get 1200 SCs exactly this year but based on the travel I have planned will get over the line with plenty to spare. Challenge for next year to try and get 1200 Scs exactly....

I hadn't considered being unable to fly. That would be a problem alright. Anyway the risk has just been minimised as I now need to go to BNE on Thursday so I'll get to WP one day sooner.

I was in North Sydney this morning and thought of you (sorry, no time to drop in)

Looks like you might make WP - excellent. Looks like I'll probably miss out - but I have 3 months to go and 805 SC's. Wouldn't want to be placing bets  .

I got to work late anyway - at the crack of 11 - so I probably wouldn't have been around. It sounds like it will be a close call for you Lindsay. SG isn't really that bad though. However if you are doing a lot of domestic travel in whY then you may miss being able to access the new J/WP domestic lounges.

Congratulations in advance to Febs and Homer. .... Now make sure you qualify :!:

I also wasted 5 Sc's this year as I finished with 1205 with 14 days to spare. ;)
