This week one of two connecting sectors of a CX Asia Miles award on QF flights was cancelled by QF. Within about 4 hours I received a phone call from a Hong Kong phone number informing me to the QF flight cancellation and asking what I would like to do. Options offered being to cancel and refund the miles and taxes or to try to make an alternate reservation for another date, I chose the cancel option and was informed the miles would be returned to account immediately and my credit card will be refunded in 1-2 weeks.

The miles were indeed returned immediately. Now to see if the suggested time-frame is achieved for the tax refund. This seems to be in contract to most people's experience with QFF redemption cancellations. I have a QFF changes on the exact same route. I had two family members traveling on the CX Asia Miles redemption and one being a pay I class fare on one sector and a QFF U-class redemption on the second. So far QFF has changed the time on the second sector to flight that would not have a legal connection with the inbound, and then cancelled the inbound flight and automatically converted to a voucher. So I am going to have to call to have that one refunded instead of a credit voucher. I am not looking forward to the long wait on hold to reach a person. The CX approach where they proactively called me within a few hours of the flight cancellation was excellent customer service.

Well done CX and Asia Miles.

I can confirm that the promised credit card refund for taxes/charges has been received. This was within the promised timeframe. Now I just wish Qantas could also do the right thing by their customers and refund withing 2 weeks.
