Trying to select some seating on upcoming CX flights and MMB will only allow me to change for the first segment. Same goes for qantas.com MMB. So I've tried calling CX cx care on +852 2747 2200 and it always asks me to leave a message, then never actually records a message. Is there any other number I can try? It is getting VERY frustrating.

tried that last night. was told to contact the e-service centre as the main line couldn't change my seats. not sure why... the booking originates in MXP so that might be a reason.

the new system makes it harder for them to do but they still should be able to - especially if you are a oneworld elite - try again, eservice centre is just for issues with online bookings i thought.

OWE with booking in J. In hindsight I should've questioned why they couldn't do a simple task such as change my seat selection. Nevertheless I will try again now.

ETA: well apparently they can do it now... could have saved me two hours of trying if they could just do it in the first place! (or if the online seat selection actually worked!)

I usually call 131747 and have never had a real issue. Even have exit row pre-allocated for upcoming economy flight on 747.

The CX customer service staff in Australia (or at least that is where I think are located) are some of the better ones around and I find them fairly helpful. Can't say the same for the rest of CX....

There is actually two other ways to deal with your problem in my opinion though both ways are in no way ideal

1/ Keep hanging up and calling back multiple times (best solution IMHO). I've usually managed to get through to an officer quickly after 5 or 6 attempts.
2/ If you are a member of MPC, call them to do it or get them to transfer you to eServices (in the latter, you will get to be put on hold and not be routed to the useless automated voice recorder)

I agree that the CX eService line you quoted above is really bad. I am not sure why they can't fix this problem (especially for J / F bookings). Voice recording feature from what I understand is fairly useless and is most frustrating to not even being able to be put on hold.

I actually had a good first experience with the e-service centre today. I made an online booking which I wished to re-ticket from J to F and pay the difference. I left my details on the voicemail and was called back within the hour and re-booked over the phone without issue.
The inability to choose seats is a little annoying but when checking MMB on QF the seats on all sectors have been allocated it appears.

Are you talking about Qantas bookings or Cathay bookings?

I have never had an issue selecting a seat on Cathay bookings.

I have been pre-allocated seats on Qantas bookings with Cathay flights and I have called to get what I perceive to be a better pre-allocated seat.

I always have this issue. The map that comes up during the booking process is always WRONG for me. For example, on the A330, it doesn't even indicate row 18 exists! Also, for 77W (4 class, new biz) it doesn't show row 12 exists and row 11 is always blocked off. This is despite the fact that when I call up, I can always pre-allocate row 11, which is where I prefer to sit.

Everytime I have made a CX booking, I have always had to call up after to allocate seats I want. And the phone service is quite cough, to be frank! If only QF had one-stop options to MXP, I would book them in a heartbeat!

CX bookings with both CX and QF sectors booked via the CX website which I have then telephoned to re-issue.
Not able to choose a seat on CX website for the middle flight.
Able to choose seats on QF MMB for first CX sector and the last sector which is QF.
Just looked at my booking again and CX have me sat in 1A on the sector I couldn't allocate myself so pretty happy with that :)

Qantas flights on CX website. I did not know that feature was there but I do not look for long haul flights that often.

Able to choose seats on QF MMB for first CX sector and the last sector which is QF.
And the inconsistency continues. I cannot select a seat for CX flights on the Qantas website. Some message about flights ineligible for seat selection.
