OK yes I am little bored in the QP and just speculating on Op-Up to F chances on my CX flight MEL-HKG - obvioulsy when it comes to op-ups nothing is guaranteed or even remotely expected but after my KA flight prediction came true I have a taste for them ;)

So earlier in the week I checked availability and EF was showing:

F4 J0 Y9

Now to my mind at that stage there was no likelihood of op-up as they did not seem to have oversold Y thus no reason to push people into J and push me in F ;)

Now sat in the SYD QP and thought I would check EF to see how things have moved:

F0 A0 J0 C0 D0 I0 Y0 B0 H0 K0 M0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0

Now putting aside the Op-Up considerations I am stunned that they are 0 in every fare bucket can they really be that sold out?

I shall update from HKG when I find I am in the seat I paid for ;)

Sadly that seat is 15C - so a little way back - should have called to get the seat I wanted :(

QF187 via SYD is the only MEL-HKG flight today showing any availability, and that is restricted to Y7 B0 ... (You can buy one for $1200+)

QF29 is sold out Today, Tomorrow and only had J availability on Tuesday.

(Simon, don;t forget to pick up your express departures card in MEL if you don't already have one.)

Thanks serfty - I wish I had picked up my express card - not for immi/security but for the person asking me if I was really in business class and asking to weigh my hand luggage. I told her three times I was in J but she kept asking "Are you sure - they normally give a different coloured BP".

She then advised me of the 7KG limit but even though I was in J still wanted to weigh my hand luggage - the rollaboard alone was 12KG - not counting the suit bag... but then nothing was done...

I actually have epasses in/out in my travel notebook that are as yet unused...

Re the availability - I guess you are saying that I shouldn't expect an op-up then ;)

Actually, with 0's everywhere the chances improve - but don't hold your breath ... :-|

How does one check availability??

As a side note....

I'm under the impression that most MEL-HKG flights, (QF or CX) fill up pretty quick. I guess that's the reason QF are increasing it to 2 flights daily instead of one....

Interesting the great 0 seems to be stalking me. I checked yesterday and the availability HKG-NRT (in reality the availability limit is HKG-TPE I think) and it was F4 J9 Y9 - so no likelihood of an op-up I joked with QF009.

This morning for fun (note I am just tarcking this out of interest to see what factors may contribute to a CX op-up as they seem to be reported as being generous in that area compared to QF - I don't expect an Op-UP and am perfectly happy with my CX J seat on a 744) I checked again and now HKG-TPE is F0 J0 Y0... no op-up at check in and none expected - be interesting to see how full the flight is...

Currently sat in the F lounge - flight delayed 30 mins (expect more) so the work was ok - took show at AC - flight goes from L4 so maybe a 10 min walk...

Cold beer :D

Well how interesting the 0 availability fairies seem to be stalking me. Currently waiting on my flight to SYD in the Wing and thought I would check availability again and here we go again:

F0 A0 J0 C0 D0 I0 Y0 B0 H0 K0 M0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0

Now c'mon not every CX flight I am on can be fully booked can it?

Could be !, i know i have been on a lot of CX flights that have been 100% full, then again a few have almost been empty.

Most of my flights recently have been full no matter what airline, or almost full, ie less than 10 seats free total. One of my QF flights had 50+ waitlists 2 days before it was being flown.

I have often seen all zero's and yet somehow a few free seats on each so you never know your luck.

i think people are just booking my flights so that they can be part of the trip report ;)

hahaha, have another drink ;)

Well one of these days i will end up sitting net to somebody doing a trip report and read about myself here i am sure... and with over 60k miles already this year it is not impossible.

I don't think it's a purely CX thing out of MEL.

On the 20th:
QF29 has only seats in J and F available.
CX134 has 2 seats in H/K/Y

Other flights have better availability.

Presume it's just a seasonal thing out of MEL. For example on the date above, SYD is showing pretty good availability,

Actually drinking coke in the Wing F Lounge as I have some work to do before I fly - trying to send 10MB emails on a wireless network in HKG whilst VPNing back to my office in Sydney is not working well...

Mal,

I live in SIN and MEL, trust me when in the last 2 years i have only managed about 4 or 5 direct flights ! usually i book late and via PER, SYD, BNE, ADL is always more availability on cheaper fares, i am sure MEL-SIN could do with more seats and services and it would all be swallowed very quickly.

I find QF9/10 always very busy in whY (and J for that matter)
