Fuel surcharge

All Cathay Pacific tickets issued on / after 01 December, 2007 (11 December 2007 for Taiwan) for travel on / after this date will be subjected to new fuel surcharge:

• USD59.7 / HKD466 / CAD58.8 / NZD80 (From USD54.9 / HKD428 / CAD56.7 / NZD79 ) for flights between Hong Kong and Southwest Pacific, North America, Europe, Africa, Middle East and Indian Subcontinent, and between Bangkok and Dubai.
• USD14.5 / HKD113 / NZD19.4 (From USD13.3 / HKD104 / NZD19 ) for flights not mentioned above, including flights to / from Japan, itineraries originated from Korea as well as flights between New York and Vancouver.
• Codeshare flights are also subjected to the respective fuel surcharge beginning 01 December, 2006.
  
  Exceptions are codeshare trains with SNCF.
  
  The surcharge will apply per flight sector, including children and infant fares. For tickets sold in Canada, the surcharge will be collected in Canadian dollars.

Not surprising after the recent BA fuel surcharge increases and QFs pseudo fuel surchase increase to base fares for domestic long haul.

I was thinking of purchasing BKK-SIN-SYD-HKG-BKK, with only short haul CX flights, before Dec 27 but I do not see the need to rush the booking due to the insignificant, US$1.20/sector, increase to fuel surcharges for short haul flights.

The Hong Kong government seems to have tight control of CX and and any fuel surcharges. I think the one that will hurt the most is the next round of QF long haul fuel surcharge increases....
