CX Int'l Business or AA Domestic First ???

Later in the year I have the option of travelling either Cathay International Business or AA Domestic First.

Is anyone familiar with these, and if so, which do you recommend?

What routing allows you this choice?

You'd be insane not to choose cathay business over AA "F"..unless of course, the AA flight is on a 777

Some AA flights SFO-JFK are operated as 3-class. They are known as Flagship flights, generally operated by 777 or 767-200 aircraft. If its a 757 or 767-300, then stick with CX via YVR.

Note that if it is an AA class class service, biusiness class D fares such as DONEx or DCIRxx fly in business class. If its a 2-class service, then the same fare flies in F.

The 2-class AA domestic F is ok on 767-300 or 777, but not good for a long flight on 757 (or MD80, but they can't stay in the air long enough for trans-continental).

Another point to note is the SC and QF FF points earning of the different flights. AA flights earn a status bonus for QF FF members (100% for Plat, 50% for Gold and 25% for Silver, just like QF and BA flight numbers). But CX flights don't earn that status bonus. Also note that AA domestic F earns F class status credits, even if the fare paid is D class.

Doesnt AA have 2-class flights sold as economy and business, to some destinations. Eg Caribbean, Central America.

In those cases DONEx and DCIRxx would get business class points and SCs.

Does "west coast" = AU or USA? If USA, CX don't fly that sector and you're possibly looking at a CX/AA code share. (Exception YVR-JFK)

If you mean West Coast AU, then CX 1 stop PER-NYC via HKG is the best routing and service by far... Great service, great transit in (arguably) the best lounges in the word (they have two at HKG) and then a non-stop service to JFK with Audio/Video on demand (QF/AA don't have it!) with 5* meals and wines...

No brainer...

"West coast" refers to North America, hence the reference to YVR, which CX does fly from to JFK. A perusal of all of the posts in the thread would have revealed that.
