i just noticed that fares for CX J class ex-TPE to Mel has gone up 30% in TWD (worst for AUD due to recent drop in AUD vs TWD).

Also fare condition re max stay has changed from 6 months to 3 months.

Looks like my good run of almost 3 years has come to an end.

Still cheaper than ex-HKG or Aus however. Wonder if that is a general change for TPE fares, had also used into Japan and Malaysia previously.

As for CMB flights, wonder if UL entry will change things.

There's a big thread on the CX board on FT relating to this

I am also suspicious that Qatar OW entry will mean an end to the good CMB fares.

They wouldn't change on the account of interest from a few Aussies, more global supply and demand.

Remember to clear the cookies in your history, there were reports prices go up when they identify interested punters ... A modern age issue no doubt.

Ft thread is interesting. Some comments that cx has tried before then retreated.

Just noticed that stopover in HK is no longer permitted. Need to find an alternative now. MH may be a good option.

Will be sticking to ex-CMB for now, but I have a lot more time flexibility than many - and seldom ending in HKG. Not sure why they couldn't just increase the D fare and then let yield management do their job with inventory. MH is viable, obviously would prefer CX tho.

Can someone give me insight into the MH alternative?

HKG-KUL-MEL-KUL-HKG for about HK$20k. Approximately 15.5 hrs each way although the cheaper HKG-KUL-MEL leg normally requires a 10 hr stopover in KUL making the trip 21.5 hrs.

agree, CX is an overall superior product (IMHO) , but maybe for some only marginally and the $$ could weigh against them
