Hi All,

A few quick questions on the routing MEL-HKG-TPE-HKG-MEL in J.
flights:
CX134 MEL-HKG 0740/1515
CX400 HKG-TPE 1630/1815

Which A330 aircraft config will fly the MEL-HKG leg?
Is the J class any good?
Is the connection ok for luggage?
I am assuming the HKG-TPE flight will be regional J class?
Departing MEL can I use the QF F lounge? or do I have to use the CX lounge?
Not that there is much time in HKG in both directions, but what lounges should I use in HKG?
Any seating allocation recommendations for the above flights?

Any other tricks and tips I should factor in?

Cheers and thanks in advance for the answers!

Should be a long-haul A330 with the 'coffin' seats - no new seats until later this year, or unless you can route through Sydney.

I don't mind the coffin seats and I think CX J class is really great, but just IMHO.

Connection through HKG is fine for luggage, no worries at all.

HKG-TPE is usually CX old regional J class (90s era 777 seats) or newer regional J class (comparable to QF's dom J). Either way, they are comfortable for a one hour flight but don't expect much from IFE. I think the newer regional seats may have proper Studio CX. If you're lucky, you might get a long haul aircraft cycling through, in which case you'd probably get a similar product to MEL-HKG (though you could totally luck out and get the new J, but highly unlikely).

Are you still QF WP? If so, yes to QF F lounge. If not, obviously no. Can only use QF lounges with OW status, not solely with J ticket.

In HKG you will only have enough time to visit one lounge - pick whichever is closest to your departing gate.

No seating allocation is particularly preferable, though you may wish to choose a window seat on the K side on the long haul flight so that you're not staring at anyone opposite you the whole flight.

No other tricks I can think of, enjoy your trip!

Over one hour connection in HKG is massive.

Do remember they advertise 55 minute connections which seem to be fine for luggage.

Regional J is ok although I've had both regional J and long-haul J on this route. Hope you're lucky and get the long-haul! Although as has already been mentioned either one is fine.

I thought this was the case, too, although I got put in my place when I said this over at milepoint. Apparently that decision was silently overturned a few months ago - and you can now use any lounge with any J or F ticket. I thought the oneworld website was ambiguous about this. However, I've been assured that you can use any OW lounge again. I was told that when oneworld changed that rule, they reversed it weeks later.

Great intel, thank you everyone!!!

Good news about the luggage, (as I am back to WP - thanks to the SC run :P ) the MEL F lounge - eggs benedict again, yum yum!.

I'm rather Looking forward to it, I haven't flown CX since the mid 90's, and they were awesome back then. I'm also looking forward to trying another J product. (It helps when making comparisons etc)

the trip from hkg to tpe is like an hour. i've stood up for longer than that on a train.
enjoy the hk lounges tho. the new cabin doesn't have a shower, and the pier is a bit of a trek. didn't bother visitng the wing last time since the F section was closed.

The F section in the Wing (the Atrium) is a separated off section but is nothing special...
