With this sale, I'm trying to figure out the best Club Point per dollar routing ex-MEL (ex-other markets can obviously be more lucrative).

I'm thinking it's a V class fare to Tokyo or Seoul which fall into the 'short' range. I'm getting about 80 CPs for ~$950.

Can anyone beat ~$11/CP?

Daytime departure from SYD would be okay in Y. Overnight return flights would be very taxing on older pax. Are there any HKG-SYD daytime flights?

We had a real nice CX J flight recently departed HKG 1pm arrived BNE 11pm unusual Int. flight arriving then instead of early am.

The huge advantage of the CX fares over QF (both the same price ATM) is that CX gives free exit rows to OWR and above. QF will charge handsomely for the same seat.

Can OWE preallocate a seat of any kind (including exit rows) on the CX sale fares that normally do not allow you to pre book a seat as part of the T&C?

Normally I would not book into these fare classes (class S in this case) as they do not pay any QF SC, but as I am now solely BFOD, PER-HKG for AUD638 rtn looks attractive.

(SQ are AUD712 for 80 VA SC and AUD802 for 160 VA SC in comparsion, but require a transfer in SIN of course).

I am not aware of any restrictions on seating allocation based on status - across awards or outright purchase. I think though that you might have to wait for the ticket to be issued before you can select seats (although I was able to choose seats on an AA award 'pending' the other day.)

The FAQ for CX seating is here (status trumps the fare basis requirements): https://www.cathaypacific.com/cx/en_AU/about-us/contact-us/faqs/manage-booking/seat-requests.html

Thanks for the link. It certainly appears that OWE will be able to select a seat on a class S fare.
