Does anyone know how upgrades on CX work?
Are they like QF. You register and then are in the lottery to find out 24h before?
Or is it that you request and its instant you know if you get the upgrade?

Or is there an option to purchase an upgrade at the airport from any class (specifically discount Y ) to business?

CX upgrade is usually one class. Y - PE - J, so no Y - J upgrade on Australian routes.
Points upgrade ? You must purchase expensive class (M and above) to be able to upgrade / waitlist for upgrade
Op-up ? It helps you are top tier Marco Polo club members. OW elite ? I wouldn't hold my breath.

Cool
So there is no pay at the airport thing for upgrades?
I called Cathay to see if there was but they didnt know (there is no official thing but didnt know if there was some local policy at the airport for such a thing)

Was thinking about a last minute mothers day gift so am happy to pay to get a higher class fare to get an upgrade but if its possible / cheaper at the airport want to try that (but if its not i want to get something now).
