Hi all,

Hubby and I have a DONE4 coming up in March. I've booked us to fly CX MEL-HKG-CDG but there's also an option to fly QF MEL-SIN-LHR-CDG. Obviously with an added leg there is more status credits to be had on the QF option, but since we've both requalified for Platinum anyway that's not the concern. However, hubby did ask how many points / SCs we'd get with CX vs QF. Can anyone help me answer that? Which airline do you think is better? We're both platinum and flying DONE4. Thanks!

Hello~

If you are already qualified for WP then you might consider putting miles towards say American AAdvantage, since their burn rates are much better. The only thing I can think would be beneficial (after already having plat), is to get rewards!

If already Plat, unless you desperately want the SC and points (are you LTG yet??) I'd be going the most direct option and saving on travel time.

Opinion will vary here regarding the difference between CX and QF J, but unless you've managed to get on the 380, there's little in it.

The opnly major difference I see is that on CX you wont get the status bonus (but will get cabin bonus) with regards points.

Thanks both. We're not LTG yet - I need another 4,000 SC's to get there so this trip will help. It sucks that we won't get double points on Cathay but I think I'll stick with the direct flight in that case.

Regardless of the burn rate I can't bring myself to join the AA program since I hate the airline so much. I'd rather contribute to my LTG with Qantas.

We got unlucky this year. We're both already plat requalified and our Qantas year ends March 31. Our DONE4 starts March 6 and ends March 30. Pity the trip isn't in April!

A few extra pts/SC's is definately not enough to get me to go through the hassle of transiting LHR...go direct.

My thought exactly! One less flight and no hassle at LHR is worth losing the double points I think. I noticed that Qantas is starting MEL/LHR A380 flights in Jan but I can live without the A380 too I think.

Also consider your lifetime points as well!!!!!

LTG is nothing to be sneezed at.

Maximise every opportunity. Only holiday where you can do status runs...................

SPRUCE :cool::cool:

In D class, MEL-(QF)-SIN-(QF)-LHR-(BA)-CDG on would earn a WP ~24,140 QFF points.

D class MEL-(CX)-HKG-(CX)-CDG would ear a WP ~13,200 QFF points.

Thanks for that. Quite a loss in SCs and points really. Too late now anyway as I've booked and paid for it. I haven't done a long haul with CX before so it will be good to see what they're like.

If you like your peace and quiet (esp. away from your other half), the CX offers a great hard product (that is not really designed to be as a sociable setup).
