It seems all the usual car hire companies in DRW have only 100km per day mileage included with around 30c/km extra above that which could get $$$ for the distances we intend travelling. I found driveaway, ntstandby and apollo suggested in AFF but they either couldn't quote or defaulted to one of the majors.

Anyone know any companies which have unlimited km car hire out of DRW? Will need it for around 2 weeks.

How far do you actually need to go? A 14 day rental means 1400km total included.

Darwin to Katherine is about 350kmls, throw in Litchfield, Kakadu, it's very easy to exceed 100klms per.

100km per day is only around 1 hour driving per day which isn't much at all especially in the expanses of NT where we expect to average around 300km/day.

Suggest taking a look at
Advancecar.com.au
and also possibly
bargaincarrentals.com.au/locations/darwin

Sorry to dig up an old thread. I haven't found an easy way around this (while staying with the majors). I think it is basically just an extra "tax" for using the hire car.

Interestingly booking via AmEx Centurion has a lower per excess Km charge than our corporate rate, so I have done that this time. Also, sometimes extra days may be better than the excess Km charge if it pushes you into a different pricing category, or you want a car for a day or two around Darwin city.

100 ks per day is easy to go over in the NT, everything is far apart.

I don't suggest this, but pick a car where the speedo cable screws into the gear box or build the extra km's into your budget.

I had similar issue in Alice Springs and after a lot of searching online Appollo Camper vans was the only unlimited km option I could find.

Their car provided was a cross hire through europcar (as Appollo only have motorhomes I think) but with Appollo terms. Worked well, and europcar confirmed it was unlimited hire when we picked up.

We encountered this too. On one holiday, we just sucked it up, it wasn't so much in the end.

The other holiday, we were going a lot further, found that the only way to get such a deal was to hire a car to return to a large city, drove from Alice Springs to Sydney. As in, one of the car returns that the company requests people to do. It seems everyone wants to drive TO the Territory, and fly home.
