I went to cancel my David Jones platinum Amex card last week as I didn't feel I was getting value for the $295 annual fee & was quickly offered 30,000 member reward points to keep the card. Worth the phone call so I will keep it for the time being.

We got the same offer back in July. Happy to keep the card if this offer continues

I need some advice, following the devaluation of AA miles, what should i dump my DJ amex points on? i have around 200k left and there is no trips I can book before the devaluation occurs. Also my renewal is in May so am going to cancel (may keep if they offer my free points).

Has anyone else received notice of amex djs reducing interest rate on purchases outside of david jones to 3.99% PA?

I would transfer it to SPG which would give you SPG points. I would then transfer the points out to Krisflyer Miles (Singapore airline) and the beauty with SPG is if you transfer in lots of 20k you get an additional 5k on top. So for 100k you're effectively getting 125k Krisflyer points which is 2.5k shy of a return flight to Singapore in A380 Suites.

Or you can transfer out from SPG to AA and get 30k for every 20k transfer which nets you 150k which is 10k shy of 2 business class to Asia. Take you pick.

I just use them for SPG and stay at the hotels especially in the USA as it is a great way to eliminate the taxes. I find some of the middle of the road Starwood's can deliver great value especially for a 5 night stay where you get the fifth night free. Counts towards status as well which is fantastic so in my case as a once a year leisure traveller, easy to maintain gold

Just negotiated 30K points to compensate the fee and instead they reversed the $295. I rang up to today to get it changed and the girl was quite surprised as on their books, 14500 points = $100 AUD. She thought I got a great deal getting the fee removed but with a 2 month trip just around the corner am on a hunt for points at the moment

Overall, feel I have been able to extract pretty good value over the years
