Hi guys,

I've got a 7 hour lay over in LAX before my QF flight to Australia (T4)

I'm thinking about buying a day pass to the AA club so I've got somewhere nice to hang out. Its 50 bucks. Is it worth it?? (I'm only Bronze QFF)

Do Qantas ever give out free day pass on checkin if you ask nicely??

Also I'm flying to LAX on a UNITED flight (booked through Qantas website). Does anyone know if I have to pickup my bags in LAX or do they get transferred?

Thanks!

You might get lucky and find an AFF community member that can guest you in, I doubt QF will just hand out a pass no matter how nice you ask, although if you are currently part of the A380 mess you might get lucky.

If you can't find anyone to guest you into the QF Lounge then I would say the AA day visit is well worth the $50. We recently flew the opposite way (SYD_LAX) and then on to ORD and used the Admirals Clubs in LAK and ORD. We enjoyed a shower and a couple of drinks (now free) in each one and it made a trip from SYD-DUB quite manageable. I would check with United about baggage rules at LAX. Unfortunately 7 hours is a bit short to do much in LA but I think there have been suggestions in other posts.

If on the one booking, you bags should be transhipped at LAX; you would not see them until arriving at your destination.

Thanks for the replies guys!

Yep all on 1 booking :)

Yes I'm part of the a380 drama... was on QF94 but got changed to QF16 due to it being 100 people overbooked with the aircraft change. Grrr. Extra 2 hours til I get home now.

If anyone is willing to guest me on Friday night (17/11) I'll buy them a drink :)

If thats the case then I think it might be worth giving them a call and asking about the possibility of a pass given they have added to the delay.

Note that the day pass gets you entry into the lounge. AA has recently introduced a very limited range of free drinks (such as Coors light beer and house red/white wine" and you will need to pay for most others. Free food is limited to very basic snacks (such as pretzels). So a long stay would result in paying in excess of $50.

So compare the cost will finding yourself a seat/table in one of the many cafes or restaurants and spending the money there. Obviously this does not get access to other facilities like showers, and 7 hours may be pretty boring unless you have a good book or laptop/iPad etc for entertainment.

Hi guys,

Well I asked nicely at checkin at T4 and got given a day pass!

It was awesome

They also gave me 6 free drink cards and I could use them on any beer! Mmm stella

Killed the time fast!

Also... the QF16 flight was one of the best I've had to/from the USA. Not one bit of turbulence for 13 and a half hours!

:)

Normally they only give 1 or 2 for QP/SG (although you can go back for more) - maybe they're used to the imbibing habits of Aussies ...

I had a lovely T4 agent say to me in a laugh once "careful if i give you too many more we'll have to get a wheel chair to get you on board sir!'

I love the AAngels :)

And here's hoping you did the non-Aussie thing and tipped the barman for your free drinks.

I never fail to notice how the US $1 bill fits nicely with the drink chits :)

I agree, always do the right thing, and they usually look after you in return.

Sure did

I gave him a dollar with every beer

and then before the flight I wanted some bottles of water.. and he gave me 3... for free :)

Worked out nicely

Wish I flew QF instead of VA to USA in April and June.... I would be QFF silver for sure :(
