I ended up changing my plans and need to cancel a Partner Classic Reward booking. Of course; I see no reason to cancel it immediately because the carrier may change/cancel it on their own accord. I tried reading through the ticket, contracts or carriage, and I just got lost and confused due to all the different fare types and reasons for cancellations.

I had seen a similar thead from 2019 with American Airlines, which suggests that cancellation should be done more than 24h before the booked flight, but might also be granted less than 24h before the booked flight. So, it wasn't so clear cut. Also, it's not clear to me whether this also applies to other partners such as China Airlines.

Two questions
1. Has any one had experience or contractual knowledge on what the deadline is for passenger initiated cancellations on China Airlines?
2. Does the cancellation deadline differ between different partners or even QANTAS and Jetstar?

Are you hoping if CI cancel one or other of the flights, or make a schedule change, that you can cancel and avoid the fee?

Otherwise why keep the booking and tie up those seat(s) you don't intend to use?

Yes. I seem to have luck in this one specific area in life. Call it a superpower. I never have flights cancelled on me unless it's convenient. 😆

Yes, I did just this … time is our friend, wait for a schedule change and then not accept and cancel for refund.

Now to see how long the points and taxes take to refund.
