How much many points would you value $1 at.

If you normally fly Tiger Domestic, and never fly business class/internationally... you may think that $1 contains 200 points of value.

If you fly business domestic Perth - Sydney, you may think that $1 contains 50 points of value.

If you fly 'RTW' in First, you may think that $1 contains 20 points of value. As in, 20 points is worth $1.

So, if you are Option A.... $750 is equal to 150,000 points. Thus, if it cost less than 150,000 points, you should use points not pay $750.

If you are Option C... $750 is equal to 15,000 points. THus, if it cost MORE than 15,000 points, you should pay $750 and not use the points.

How will you use your points?

Personally, 1:100 is a fairly reasonable number (maybe more like 1:80, but.).... so, to someone like me, $750 is 60,000-75,000 worth of points.... so, I would probably pay the $750. (or, more likely, see if I could pay 80,000 points and fly J, but.)

I like to travel J where its possible/affordable, so tend to stash my points for J rewards or J P+P. As Ricee007 says, this modifies the value of a point to me and I tend to use a 3c/point rule of thumb. So my quick feasibility would be 40,000 x 0.03 = $1,200 of value. This means I expect 40K points to provide me 1200$ of ticket value. In your case, I'd pay the 750$ as its "cheaper" (40K points @ 750$ = 0.019c ea).

However, thats only a quick-n-dirty feaso. Other things to take into account before making a final decision are whether or not you will received points back for your fare (either points or pay), plus, if you are hunting status then what SC's are available on the fare and what do you value them at?

Here's a tip; when searching for one way flights, also check the cost of return flights too as fares can drop by 75% or more ;)

If only needing the first sector, you could always abandon the return sector.
