Delta Ditches Expiring Miles - SmarterTravel.com
ATLANTA, Feb. 15, 2011 /PRNewswire/—Delta Air Lines today announced it has eliminated the SkyMiles mileage expiration, creating a new industry-leading benefit for all members. This program change is effective for all accounts as of Jan. 1, 2011, and makes Delta the only major U.S. carrier without mileage expiration.
But as Delta's news release takes pains to show, the airline is taking steps to level the playing field. In addition to the liberalized expiration policy, the airline has eliminated frequent flyer redemption fees and implemented rollover elite miles, two other significant benefits for SkyMiles members.
I do hope this sort of enhancement can become a world wide trend!

Some lawyer buddy once told me that he suspected that airlines allowing points to "expire" was probably not legal. His argument was that since points were treated as some form of currency then the airline could not unilaterally just remove them from your account. If this policy was actually tested in a court, we might find changes to all airline programs.
Perhaps Delta has just had some legal advice of their own and is getting ahead of the curve..........

Having said that, I am a huge admirer of the Delta FF program.

Another 'enhancement' which could be useful is Partner awards.

I have tried looking but it is very hard find if it exists at all. The current award chart only lists awards to/from the USA.
