Hi all. So I booked a business reward flight from SYD/LAX/LAS return in late October. The SYD/LAX leg is on VA and the LAX/LAS on Delta. The tickets for both flights were sent to me separately and I called VFF to ask if they can be linked on the one PNR to help with baggage interlining etc. I was then told that not only can they not link the ticket but I cannot even check in for the Delta flight in SYD (even though It is all booked through the one reward ticket). Meaning I have to go through everything LAX has to offer and recheck myself and my bags back in, and pay Deltas baggage fee's.

As I am used to the QF AA link in the US which is always on the one PNR and easy to interline baggage etc. I ask is this false information from VFF or is this just a very weak Codeshare agreement. I know either way that I need to pick up my bags and go through customs with them in LAX but I would prefer to be able to drop them off again at the transfer desk and not carry them over to delta and have to completely recheck, and pay, again. Is there any way to make this connection a little easier? It's a 3hr connection time and I am gold VFF. Thanks.

Wow - not being able to get everything on the one ticket isn't great :| would be good to know if this happens for all redemption bookings with multiple carriers..

Does the ticket you've got indicate any particular baggage allowance?

OK.. so you can't "check in" for the DL flight in SYD (and get BP etc.. is that what you meant?).... but are you sure that means they won't tag your bags to the final destination?

I have that done all the time on US *A airlines when I'm heading back to LAX to fly home on NZ... separate tickets and all....

I would hope at a minimum baggage is can be tagged through to Delta flight to LAS. Otherwise Virgin has no place to promote Delta as an alliance partner!

Still a pity not a single PNR booking offered. 3 hrs transit time in LAX msg sound plenty, but all u need is a slight delay and you may be in a pickle.
