Hi

Was wondering if anyone knew if Delta's Economy Comfort was classed as PE when earning SC's?

Cheers

From my experience, it's registered as the original booking class. If you're booking via DL, it'll be easy to see the economy fare class when you book as thy overtly show it. Then they offer you the comfort option as an add on.

Like Deewhy, my experience is that economy plus earns SCs at economy rates. It's better to think of Economy comfort as equivalent to buying 'the works' on NZ - it's a service addon, not a different class of service.

Furthermore, the Velocity website states that these fare buckets earn premium economy SCs. The only DL bucket eligible is W, which can only be purchased when travelling in premium economy on a DL-marketed flight operated by VA.

Premium Economy:

  • Virgin Australia and Virgin Samoa: W, R, O
  • Air New Zealand - Long Haul: U, E, O, A
  • Delta Air Lines~: W
  • Etihad Airways~: P
  • Virgin Atlantic: W, K, H, S
~Only available on codeshare services operated by Virgin Australia.

If you're looking for VA aligned options other than y class, have a look at VX. Their MCS books in as full fare econ. And that has food and a bag included. Then you can also have a go at the upgrade process to get to first. I did this for a flight and I got full first class VA SCs which was unexpected.

I booked DL economy comfort & some F earlier in the year. I got:

MIA - ATL (10 SC, Y comfort)
ATL - MEX (15 SC, Y comfort)
MEX - JFK (20 SC, Y comfort)
PDX - SFO (F, should have 40 SC but am arguing this - DL flight number, AS metal)
SFO - LAX (40 SC, F)

I'll be doing some more US domestic flying Dec - Jan so I'll be keen to check out VX also. American F seems to be roughly equal to Australian J in my limited experience.

I would have booked with VX MCS which I have flown a few times but they don't fly MIA to JFK. I prefer Delta F over American F, have not flown Delta Y but MCS on VX is good.

I did DL Y economy comfort from MCO- JFk. Md88, and was fine for the 2.5hrs. Cleaner than VX :) the comfort cost about $30 for the extra legroom. There's only a curtain separating y from j that's attached to the back of the j seat back.

WHY ?..... from the website .."Points will not be earned on Reward Seat bookings or on fare classes other than as specified above. You cannot earn Points on codeshare flights other than those operated by Delta Connection carriers and Virgin Australia"

Call me new or whatever but I had an expectation that something booked directly via Delta with a Delta flight number was good enough ... that's one of the reasons I've signed up here, to learn more.

codeshare flights are a mine field when it comes to earning points. you will find that most codeshare flights do not earn unless it is both marketed and operated by that airline. This is especially true with Velocity

Both the original and flown booking class. When you purchase economy comfort on DL, the booking class doesn't change, as economy comfort is not a separate cabin; it's just a paid-for seat assignment in coach. Similarly, if you purchase an exit row seat on VA, your booking class doesn't change.
