I may book a KLM return flight for travel next month and was looking at both programs. Not likely to be travelling Skyteam on a regular basis so the number of miles collected is not going to be high. Looking at mileage partners SkyMiles has more hotel partners to keep the balance ticking over.

Any thoughts or preferences?

No thoughts?

I asked the same sort of question on Flyertalk and the advice appears to be to stick with Delta SkyMiles especially if Delta and Virgin Blue come up with a codeshare agreement. Also Flying Blue has been "enhancing" their program recently which will probably sway more people against joining Flying Blue.
