I'm flying into DFW domestic at about midnight on Dec 31st (should be a fun flight), and don't fly out to Oz until the next evening. I've been to Dallas lots of times and as it will be at the end of a long trip, I have no ambitions to go out anywhere (even the Grapevine Mills mall!).

Has anyone had experience with hotels very close to DFW which have day rates? The Grand Hyatt is too expensive; I have an enquiry into the Hyatt Regency.

Anyone done day stays anywhere in the area, please?

Oh, while I'm at it, can you go through TSA security without a boarding pass?

Yes but this was approx 5 years ago
Courtyard Marriott north of DFW. - not sure if it still exists.

But it was only available in the afternoon. Not sure how it will work for you as you arrrive at midnight. Maybe a normal night plus late-late checkout?

Yes, that is what I am after. Normal night stay, then a day stay (or whatever) tacked on.

I have stayed at the Regency a few times. It is no palace but is functional. You can walk from Terminal C, half a dozen steps to negotiate. They also have a shuttle.

Rates are high that night starting at an inclusive USD221. It is 9.5K Hyatt points (normally 8K). You may be able to wangle a late check out.

With a current 20% bonus promotion you can purchase 9.6K Hyatt points for USD192.

They have a Summer promo on ATM - US$193 (hmmm ... I wonder if it includes tax - no mention) which I regard as OK for this type of stay - but prefer to pay less.

Rather not rely on that, and even then, I'd really prefer the room up till maybe 5-6pm.

But then again, with an e-BP, I could probably set up shop in a lounge from about noon! On QF94 at 19:30.

That is the base rate for the inclusive USD221 I quoted

Nothing wrong with the DFW Flagship lounge. I have had a few longish stays there this last year or so.

Thanks. This isn't the walk you recall (from their website)?

Walking path to Hotel from Terminal C is ONLY recommended for guests traveling with 1 or less pieces of luggage, as the path will lead through multiple sets of stairs before reaching the Hyatt Regency DFW.

Maybe three flights of eight steps. No problem for me with carry on.

Here's a long term FT thread:

Have stayed previously in Irving, a few hotels at the junction of 183 & 161. Next to Walmart Superstore and eateries. Most have a shuttle to the airport. Not flash but perfectly fine for an overnight. Q Hotels sell them.

The Grand Hyatt is excellent and can’t be beaten for convenience. It can be pricey though. The walk up rate on the weekend was $314 plus tax so I declined and decamped to Flagship for the day.

Flagship closes at 22.15 so won’t work for your arrival time.

I assume that’s US$314? That’s what they are asking pre tax for a night in December.

My ideal would be to get a regular room for the night, then tack on a day stay. I don’t think that’s going to happen - I emailed the Regency 3 days ago asking for a day rate and no reply.

So probably going to be the Grand Hyatt, booked through Qantas Hotels (no interest in Hyatt loyalty) for about US$360 all up for the night, as late check out as I can get, then the Flagship lounge.

There’s a few Hiltons close by DFW that are cheap and have free shuttles, much cheaper than the Hyatt (around US$100-150 pre tax). Some of them are suites (eg Embassy Suites) which would be pretty comfortable. Some of them have day rates (the Hilton wesite will find these if you enter the same date for arrival and check out) but at those low prices probably easier to just book two nights.

@justinbrett - thanks for the tip about entering the same date to price day stays. I checked a few of the nearby hotels and 2/3 ( including Hyatt Regency) stopped their shuttles about 23:00. ( I'll arrive abt 00:00), the other didn't say. Need to call for after hours shuttle.

At that hour and knowing how I am traveling then "😡" especially having arrived international at MIA, I'm just going to swallow the cost.

Doubletree shuttle is 24h. Or self fund Uber.

I personally wouldn‘t pay the Hyatt rates when I‘m probably only get 10 hours in the room.
