As it turns out in 2012 I'll end up with 36 nights, 17 stays and ~93,000 base points.

Is it worth spending the extra 700 bucks to hit 100K BP or does Hilton make habit of comping folks who are just shy?

I'm going to be one stay short personally so i'm aiming for a MR. I have not heard any reports of them comping but others may know better than me.

I would stay somewhere to spend the $700-plus on accommodation and food/drinks to ensure Diamond for 2013.

I managed to get over the line on my last stay and qualified as a diamond with 46 pointd to spare, and no more planned stays for this year. I was relieved when the points posted cough I was not sure if I had enough and was wondering how I would make up a few if I was short.

No personal experience of this but numerous reports on FT that they may not comp you. I'd definitely spend the $700 as I would value Diamond well worth that amount over Gold YMMV

I would call customer service and speak to a CSA, and beg to retain Platinum and promise a stay in the very future that will generate the required base points. You may get put through ot a sympathetic supervisor.

If not, with that many Hilton stays I would definitely spend the $700 to requal.

I had a similar experience when I was HH gold - although I was closer to retaining than you, also via base points.

The HH system is merciless, and will bump you down to silver or even blue with no soft landing. The CSA's are human and they do have the power to comp you in some cases.

Does VA platinum requal get HH diamond requal??

If not I am up for a fall.....only 47k points

18 December Brisbane Hilton King Hilton Deluxe with Bed and Breakfast is $626.00 just add a few bottles of alcohol to the order to reach $700.00 and that can be our location for Brisbane drinks
