AFF family - we are all affected by ‘The Pandemic‘ (TP as I will not name it in this thread)….residing in MEL (and a retired doctor) I am sensitive to the emotional rollercoaster entailed.

So .. in no way diminishing the seriousness or need for factual information on TP.. this thread is for when you need to read something good happened in the world of TP & travel.

Here is my positive experience from VA yesterday….

Earlier in year had bought Tix x2 for APRIL for family member/partner interstate trip (mix of points and $$). On the day one got ill so their fare placed into travel credit.

This credit then used in part to buy business out/economy back fare for another family member to attend interstate conference with me in BNE

… yesterday (you guessed it - October conference is cancelled).

So.. I rang VA call centre midday yesterday, answered after 3 rings by very helpful Emma and asked ’what are my options?’ … she happily advised because outbound MEL fare was J I am entitled to full cash refund (Who knows or cares what happened to the actual points) and I’ll get this in 48-72hours. It’s almost a grand and more than I outlayed initially…
RESULT.!!

So - have you had a good travel experience in TP.???

PS - This thread is for the (admitedly lean) times we are grateful for current travel-related experiences and my aim is to keep it positive…. Even if this means it may go nowhere and no replies. !!!

I keep reading TP as "Toilet Paper" or "TravelPass", as the acronym has been used in another thread! Probably better just to write "the pandemic", or even just 2021. :p

But to answer your question, I have had some good flights this year. Heck, I even had a pleasant experience flying Jetstar last weekend from CHC to AKL. Almost full flight, but I had a shadow in 1F with extra legroom and since I had a Max Bundle, I was served a somewhat decent breakfast on board while I enjoyed watching the sunrise out the window. You could almost have mistaken my experience for intra-Europe business class!

But did they try to sell overpriced goods up and down the aisle?

I travelled to the butcher's on my bike and got some nice lamb chops for tea. Great Travel experience.

Seriously though. 2 weeks ago we were due to go to Falls Creek, staying at the Falls Creek Country club. Lockdown came and, Despite having booked with booking.com (I know, but I was getting some Krisflyer points for it), the hotel gave us full credit for a non-cancellable booking (there were no other kind). then as soon as we opened up I was on the phone and they let me book the last room with the credit (and a few dollars more). they had no obligation to give me a credit but they did and for that I am very grateful.

(also glad we got away when we did because I smell another victorian Lockdown coming on)

Not a good experience...but a relief...I was supposed to go to Sydney today for a 3 day weekend. I suddenly couldn't remember if I cancelled the hotel!

I opened my Hilton app and there was the reservation sitting on the home screen....arggggh! Then a second later it refreshed and I found it under cancelled.

This is about as positive as my travel stories can get...sorry!

Well of course, it is Jetstar ;)

But the snack & drink were included in my ticket.
My only experience with intra-Europe business class was with Finnair and the cabin crew spent as much time trying to sell product as serving meals and drinks.

Ah. No, that wasn't my experience!

(And to be honest, I've taken dozens of intra-Europe J flights, including on AY, and never experienced that there, either!)

Well I had a good VA flight.first one for 16.5 months.see haven't totally forgotten to be a frequent flyer.Despite my brilliant red status I had a row of 3 for myself. No such luck for those in front of me.
Then my 2 bags out in the first 8.See they RWIW.

Does catching the bus into the city last night and I was a 100m short of the stop but waved anyway (there wasn't anyone waiting at the stop) The bus driver drove up to me and let me on (which is apparently illegal but nice) and I was the only person on the bus until we got to the stop before I got off - it was almost like an Uber.

We were flying to and from Dublin with probably 70% Chinese tour groups on board so that must have been the difference :)

An even better travel experience today.Mrsdrron has a significant birthday coming up and because of TP decided it had to be a QLD experience.

So why not the IC Hayman island I thought. However could only get 2 award nights a little over a week before so booked that. The rates for the birthday week were horrendous and no award availability. So this was to happen on Tuesday next week. But the a lockdown until Sunday 4pm and would be a real rush to drive to Airlie beach by Monday night.

Yesterday I got a ring from reservations at Hayman island to see if still coming and i said we are still trying to make it.But that got me thinking.Maybe quite a few Sydney folk cancelling. And indeed obviously a lot have.So now staying 3 nights including her birthday. Not only that the same priced award for a category higher room.So now booked.

It was a beautiful clear crisp blue day and I drove from the south side of Canberra to the north side today. Any AFFers who are from Canberra will understand why that is regarded as a travel experience 🤭.

From a cancelled March 2020 Luxury Escapes Bali trip (we were flying out the very day the Aus border closed) we accepted a series of vouchers as LE would not refund the money. So far we have had three nights in Bondi, and three nights in a luxury cottage in the Barossa Valley.

Today is the last booking day of that trip. It's cold and rainy and we are just about to light the fire, I'll have a spa bath in one that overlooks the valley, and the free bottle of red that came with the booking, along with a great supply of goodies and food for a cooked breakfast tomorrow.

They did ring me yesterday to make sure I hadn't come from the Eastern states because, well, umm Covid.
