Virgin peeps what’s the difference between Economy x and exit row. Any one better than the other

Thanks

Exit Row greater leg room, cannot have bags under seat, must be able to help in an evacuation. Less chance of people kicking you in the seat due to greater distance between seat. Generally last to disembark.

Econ X Front zone, no need to help in an evac. Faster disembark. Tighter legroom. Option to take Row 3 which is bulkhead, bags in overhead only.

I think they class emergency exit as Economy x.

I've never been in the exit rows, but would they have more legroom than row 3? Row 3 has more legroom than Business!

@VPS, I'd always choose the front Econ-X over exit rows; row 3 whenever I can, but plenty of leg room in rows 4 and 5 too. Priority Boarding means little chance of not having a bin available for Row 3 stuff.

Does anyone know if the first exit row (Row 13) seats recline?
No recline on any emergency seat ever.. Also row 12 in front (non exit) has no recline as well I think

Yes. This is common on most airlines with the possible exception of some low cost carriers. But on most legacy carriers the crew will unlock the recline after takeoff.
Certainly would not hold my breath with VA. Just tried to move myself from row 13 to 14 (emergency exits) as VA Platinum and the app says can't move paid seats...they are free for Platinum and never paid for them in first instance. !! Well done Virgin....🫣😤..on BA and other European carriers you cannot recline emergency exit seats not and indeed can not recline either the seats directly in front of exits ever. So it is not just LCC. Recline button options simply not fitted.

Hmmm. I was actually going to use BA as an example where they *do* unlock the exit seats. Although as airlines are getting new slimline seats maybe they are removing that function.

They’re locked for take off and landing. Cabin crew are supposed to unlock them after the seat belt sign is switched off.

But NOT necessarily the actual exit row seats.

What they have to lock is the seat BEFORE an exit row. So that no seat recline can block an exit path behind it.

So on many 737s that have 2 x exits rows over the wing, it's the seat before the first exit row that gets locked for recline and the seats in the next row too (the first exit row).

But seats in the second exit row don't get locked.

I think the slimline seats has a lot to do with it plus pushing more seats in generally!! 🤭

I would pick R4 or 5 the seat armrests are not fixed there is ample leg room and being R4 and 5 you are more likely to get a shadow.
Exit row armrests aren't fixed on VA 737's (not sure about the ex-MI/KL ones though). More legroom in exit rows but like being closer to the front in 4/5.

My issue is that sometimes I need a belt extender and for some reason they aren't allowed in exit rows. I learnt that the hard way after being booted from an exit row seat after boarding once.

R3/4/5 on VA are all Y+ seats and have the same amount of legroom if not more than the exit rows. I only called out R4/5 as the armrests are not fixed as they are in R3.

it would seem that Virgin are going to crunch up the seating in business and economy X on the 737s to get another economy row in! Just up to the emergency row. that will make it tight in the biz front row against the bulkhead. when will these come in Im booked in 1F in July but don't want it in the new configuration.
