Different Taxes MUMBAI-BRISBANE Oneway online and over the phone

I just booked a ticket between MUMBAI-BRISBANE using my points over the phone (after several online attempts failing at the payments stage, yes they did wave 5000pts phone booking fee) with taxes $133.xx per person, which I would have paid $200 if had done it online (INR8000.00),

I dont understand why so much of difference?

Though the online booking was failing on the payment stage due to the reason "Could not confirm the availability or amount for the route you have selected"

Just thought would share the experience that saved me $70.

had similar when booking 1 way from bkk to syd. i was told by the QF BKK office (really an agency) to call QF in SYD and pay the taxes.

Taxs were 4xx_ BHT but i was charged 103 AUD which was only just over 3000 BHT at the time.

I believe the cause is due to the system that Qantas uses for Fuel Surcharges, which bases Fuel Surcharges on the point of issue of a ticket rather than the actual journey undetaken:

For BOM-SIN-BNE (one way), The Fuel Surcharge when issued in India is ~$A144.
For BOM-SIN-BNE (one way), The Fuel Surcharge when issued in Australia is $A85.

The online site will attempt to ticket the FF booking in India (Assuming there is a Qantas office there) so will use the Indian figure. The Call centre being based in Australia will use the Australian figure.
