Difficulty changing Qantas flight online

Hi there,

I've been in the midst of a brain-destroying encounter with the Qantas website for the last few hours, so I'm hoping someone will be able to come to my rescue!

I have previously booked and fully paid for a Sydney to St. Louis return ticket, departing on June 14. I'm now looking to change the departure date to June 6 but would like the return date and flights to remain as is.

Whenever I go to 'Manage My Booking' on the Qantas Frequent Flyer website, I am not given the option of changing the outgoing flight only. Instead I am forced to change both the flight out and the flight back. The original return flights and flight times I have booked are no longer available, and the new options unfortunately don't suit.

This is all rather frustrating as the website informs me "all flights in your itinerary will be available to change" -- surely this means I should be able to change one and not the other?

I'm reluctant to phone Qantas Telephone Sales to change the booking as it looks like this will incur an additional $80 fee on top of the $200 I will be paying to change my booking (the tickets were bought on sale).

If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated!

You could plead your case to the QF telephone sales Rep and see if they’ll waive the fee, and if not, wait a bit and then phone back and see if you can get someone a bit nicer.

I had a similar issue last year going to ORD, and I rung QF and from the start said "I presume you won't be charging me considering your online tool is faulty", and sure enough, they didn't.

It would be horribly unfair if they tried to charge you. If you do get knocked back a couple of times (unlikely) definitely ask for a supervisor!

Good luck.

Thank you both for your insight -- I was lucky enough to speak to someone reasonable who seemed to understand how ridiculous this "glitch" is. Booking fee waived, which is great, but I can't help but think Qantas won't do anything to remedy the situation for future customers.

Thanks again!

Welcome to AFF, QF have had quite a few glitches with the website in the past of a similar vein and most if not all are fixed over time, especially if it helps reduce the cost of a transaction from a staffing point of view.

Hi there,

The problem is that a) your going on another carrier (not QF) and b) the whole itinerary will need to be changed, with whatever conditions the other airline offers QF as part of the total fare. QF can't confirm it on its own. Having said that I'm sure if you explain it on the phone, you won't have to pay the 'call us' fee, assuming you can still meet the fare class/availability rules.
