So the adventures begin...

I've finally decided I'm going to be more serious about KrisFlyer and/or Velocity points so have just applied for a Diners + MC combo online.

Got a call today to check a few things and am astounded at one element of this...

They have agreed to call my manager to confirm my income as I work for a large company, however in my app I had declared some extra income (bonus and investment income) and they said they would have to verify this also. It was $5000 so by the time it is taxed etc is really doesn't make a difference.

I told them I'm not having them bother my manager in addition to me providing my tax returns etc so they could choose. We settled on just ignoring this income and making an assessment on my gross salary.

The part that absolutely astounded me was the 'security contact' that you often have to include in applications - this is usually included so that they have a name to call should you fall into collections and become uncontactable.

In this case they say they use it to 'pass on a message if you have large activity on your account and we can't contact you'. Ok, while I'm not happy with this I guess I could live with it...

But no, they need to VERIFY THE CONTACT'S INFORMATION too... So they are now going to call my mother to check her phone number and address are correct...

DINERS CLUB AUSTRALIA - be warned that this has made me furious and is the most ridiculous application process that I've EVER come across. All I kept getting was 'this is the process'.

You will be receiving a complaint from me about this shortly...

In my application for the combo cards I gave my accountant's details as a "security contact" complete with business address and business phone no.
When they contacted him they asked his residential address and home phone as well. Needless to say he wasn't very impressed at all.

Haha, my point exactly...

This is incredibly dumb. I understand the collections aspect and this usually means the person will be contacted in a tiny tiny percentage of cases.

This idea of contacting the person when I'm not available is so dumb. If Diner's can't get a hold of me, then my mother probably won't be able to get in touch any faster...

All she would do is send me an email saying to call them... Why can't Diner's do the same thing in the first place?!

So my application process continued...

Diner's verified my income with my manager and we organised for him to also verify my residential address also.

The cards arrived today which is only a few days after the final conversation so that's pleasing. Easy process to activate them and now I've also got access to what masquerades as an online portal and we will see what adventures that brings as I start to transact etc.

I must say that they are quite attractive cards if nothing else!

The sleek look of your cards in the wallet is to make up for the clunky portal and back end you're about to experience the joys of...
