Disappearing Status Credits

Qualified for platinum first time 24.12.2021 with 1,020 status credits, but not credited until 27.12.2021 - I assume due to Christmas break. Coincidentally we flew home on 27.12.2021 and earned 40 more status credits. This whole requalification year these 40 status points have counted toward requalification and in total I accumulated 803 status credits up to 30.09.2021. My account duly said, "great work you will requalify for platinum' (which was correct). Now after the last system upgrade, I have 763 status credits and with no further flying before 27.12.2022 so will not earn anymore. It appears the 40 status credits earned 27.12.2021 have now been lost towards requalification for this year. Two hours on the phone to two different agents and I have no confidence they understood me or will remedy the problem.

Isn’t the relevant date your QANTAS year anniversary, rather than the date you qualified for P or the date you were accorded that tier? What is your QFF membership year end date?

I think there are 2 separate issues mixed together:

1) Unlike most other programs, Velocity uses a 12-month 'rolling window' for status. You must have earned 40 status credit sometime in late November/early December last year. The 12-moth rolling window means the 40 status credit earned more than 12 month ago has just fallen off. The fact that you earned another 40 status credit in late December last year has nothing to do with this; the latter 40 status credit will disappear from your account in late December.

2) You have 12 month to re-qualify once you reach a level. You reached plat Dec last year, so you had 12 month from that date to re-qualify. You happen to re-qualify in Sep. This has nothing to do with any status disappearing from your account.

One thing I am not 100% sure is whether your rolling 12-month start from the date you re-qualify (i.e. from Sep this year), or from anniversary of the date you originally qualified (from Dec this year). I presume it starts from the date you re-qualified.

Yes I did requalify in September 2022 but now my account says I only have 763 status credits which is 37 short. (I did have 803, earned between 27 December 2021 and now). My velocity account confirmed I had requalified by september, but now I haven’t.

My original review date was 27 December, and this is where I believe the problem lies. Even though I qualified by 24.12.2021 nothing was processed until 27.12.2021. Flights then taken on 27 December, exactly 40 status credits, have now not counted toward requalification

So you had some flights on 24 Dec and some on 27 Dec. Processed date is of no relevance: you should have one (or mrore) entry for 24th and one or more for 27th as "Activity date". Do you have those in your account activity?

@JK1964

To be clear, qualification/requalification is based on SC earn on the scheduled departure date of the flights taken or last day of month for Flybuys earn for that month.

SC earned in the previous 365 days count for Qualification (watch out for leap years).

Once qualified you have 365 days until the review date to requalify.

Yes but both posted on 27th which happens to be my review date. But the flights of 24th were enough to get me to platinum

But to be clear, I had requalified by September 2022 (803 earned), and my status activity confirmed this, with the message ‘great work, you will requalify for platinum’. Now my status tally tells me I need 37 more status credits to requalify.

In that case your original review date was incorrect. If you received a card I presume that would have been printed on it.

Yes it says 27th, which is technically incorrect. I assume it was because of the Christmas break. it has not been an issue until now as my status balance always agreed to my own spreadsheet. I even reconstructed all of the 2021 earn and confirmed that 1,020 status was earned by 24 December. It’s not until the last system shutdown that the discrepancy occurred.

Did you have screenshots or anything to prove this? I would consider calling VFF to query this....

I wish I had taken a screen shot at the time that it said I had requalified. I've called them twice already and all they say is what the computer tells them without having a proper look into the history. They can't seem to get their head around the difference between the total status credits which are a rolling 12 month total, and the re-qualification status credits.

It's a bit tricky, and something that's never been entirely clear or obvious - but if your review date is 27 Dec 2022, then the 365 day period for requalification should be 28 Dec 2021 - 27 Dec 2022. However, this has resulted from a delayed posting from the 24th, so those 40 seem to have fallen into a black hole.
I think you should retain platinum, but it may be difficult to explain to someone. It's a downside of the rolling calendar,

Thank you, that is exactly correct, although they only fell into the black hole recently. Up to mid November it was still telling me I had re-qualified for platinum.
