Discontinuance of The Places app

Just notice a message in the app that it’s being pulled from all app stores at the end of November 2019.

For those that already have it, it will continue to function through to May 2020 but no new brands or hotels will be added from now onwards.

Despite it’s at time flaky nature, I scored a reasonable haul of bonus points over the years....

Was able to download it this week so it's not completely gone, but yes, clear that it will wind up soon.

The Places Android app is a POS, it works intermittently at best or not at all. However I realised you can simply go to

https://placesbyleclubaccorhotels.com/

on Chrome and save the landing page to the Home Screen, from there it behaves just like the app and works every single time. No more almost missing the check-in due to the app not functioning when needed.

Going to give it a good workout before the closure in May.

I have not received any points from places for nearly 2 years, yet I have checked in numerous occasions in several countries. Tried to ask them about it but cant get a straight answer or none at all,
And at times I have asked reception at hotel when checking out to make sure Im registered etc - no-one seems to know what I am talking about!?
And the app wont even work on my phone now - tried to show it at Novotel Singapore last year when I was asking about it - as they had know Idea, but could not as it just kept flashing to the first page and not let me open it.
Have downloaded in my ipad to try again next time but dont like my chances of getting any more points etc.

You can claim stays retrospectively. Sorry, I don’t know for how long in the past.

You only get bonus points for achieving Badges - which usually require more than one stay in a particular brand, country etc. The criteria are in the app.

Thanks. Yes I knew but it seemed I got a few badges a few years back and after travelling to some different countries thought I might have qualified for some more. . Oh well not likely to get anymore now. I guess they dont like giving out too many points

The iOS app is working on my phone and iPad. But I just noticed that my last stay in late Junary is still “Pending”...

My last checkin has been now been “validated”. So it’s still working as expected. But I don’t think I’ll get any more badges before it shuts down.

Still kaput for me.

Wasn't able to login at all in Auckland. Registered when back in an Aussie hotel but now on the rare occasion I actually get in it's frozen and says "You are a new guest at [XYZ]".

I was unlikely to earn another badge anyway.

Can no longer access on Iphone/Ipad

Same for me. Irrelevant now anyway. Hopefully there is something new as we start flying and staying again in the months ahead.
