I just flew back from BNE to SYD this afternoon, and was pleasantly surprised to see us boarding an E190, I hadn't flown one of these planes yet but was very impressed the 2 abreast seating was good, I had booked into an exit row so that always helps but it feels like there is more room than on a 737. I would like to fly on these more often. Also caught a look at the new uniforms they look nice, the crew are friendly and I got into the lounge before the renovations started (apparently on Friday) so all in all a great trip. I'm looking forward to the A330 over to Perth next

The e190's are nice and they do have more room. Wider aisles, seats and better seat pitch. They are a nice little unit and far more comfortable than a 737. Really lovely jet.

I agree BUT:

they are more expensive to buy and to run; especially the E170 version which basically does not run at a profit - which is why, presumably, DJ are getting rid of them!!!

But they are as nice an aircraft as I have ever flown on!!!

Sorry, but common sense would argue against your statement, namely why would an airline go two a two type operation if there was no advantage, and also why would an airline buy more of the second type if they were more expensive to purchase and operate? While the e jets have a higher CASM (Cost per available seat mile), they also offer a higher RASM (revenue per available seat mile), so on routes where a 737 wont get sold out they make a lot of sense.

Flew in one of these BNE-CBR this morning. Nice aircraft, reasonably comfy seats, I'd easily take one of these over a DJ 737.

Sorry I did not explain my thoughts better.

While I agree the E190 makes sense against a 737 when there are not sufficient bums on seats, I was comparing the E170 to a ATR72 or Q400. Sure the E-jet is a nice plane (as I noted in my earlier post) but I am led to believe costs more to run than the turboprops.

Does or will DJ have a notice to say what type of aircraft you will be flying on before you purchase the tickets like QF does? This will certainly help as well once the A330 come online

It is a very nice aircraft to fly in. Nice and wide seats which is great (I'm not a really wide load! But it certainly is nice to be able to stretch out).

Personally I always seem to get more 170's than 190's but I hate them - I find them to be a lot smaller and far noisier than the 737's. In fact I'm very glad they've stopped putting them on ADL-MEL vv when I'm generally flying. Bring on a big jet - althh the funniest thing is the look on the people's faces when they hit full throttle and everything moves back and clicks into place!

If you go to "flight info" and select "Timetables/flight durations" it shows the aircraft type.

Correct, the other issue with the E jets that DJ has struggled with (as have other carriers) is service reliability.
