Well, looks like it's all go in the land of DJ, with its recent trademark lawsuit filings falling in its favour today.

Virgin Blue in final stages to re-brand as Virgin Australia

INSIDE

  • Virgin Group acquires Virgin Australia name and Internet domain virginaustralia.com.au
  • Virgin Blue applying new name internally
  • Virgin Blue executives appointed to Virgin Australia Airlines and Virgin Australia Holdings

Virgin Blue is in final stages to re-brand its domestic operation as Virgin Australia following the federal court siding with a claim from Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Group that a Victorian company was infringing on the Virgin Australia trademark.

The lawsuit's applicant, Virgin Enterprises Limited, the Virgin Group's London-based company that owns and leases over 2000 "Virgin" trademarks, trademarked the Virgin Australia name in February 2010 in 200 categories including air travel, seating reservation, loyalty programmes, passenger lounges, package tours, promotion of sport events, freight services, in-flight entertainment, limousine hire, airport parking, and model aeroplanes.

The court ordered the Victorian company, Virgin Australia Pty Limited, to legally change its name and be restrained from using the Virgin Australia name. On 24 February the company changed its name and Virgin Enterprises then reserved the Virgin Australia name, according to Australian Securities & Investments Commission filings, which were received on 25 February. Companies must submit a complete application within two months of their initial filing, leaving less than a fortnight for Virgin Enterprises to do so.

Interesting, I note they mention the domestic operation only though.... is it possible V Australia will live on for now if SQ is continuing to dig their heels in?

Or perhaps another deal is happening for VS in tandem that has appeased them (don't you just love speculation?:D)

In a sense, it doesn't really matter too much anyway - do you know anybody who flies on V Australia who doesn't just refer to it as "Virgin" ??

Well with 5 aircraft, a later re-branding to those planes wouldn’t be too hard to do :p

I've seen a new, completely white aircraft in the DJ hangar at BNE (Iwork right next to the observation area) Will keep an eye out to see if it gets any unusual markings...

edit: our mystery plane has been identified, and it looks like i was right!
Virgin Blue gets first Boeing 737 with futuristic 'Sky Interior' - Flights | hotels | frequent flyer | business class - Australian Business Traveller

Completely white virgins have been the norm of months in both 73 and Ejet flavors, and yes the sky interior aircraft has been expected:

Until the launch/reveal, the only news worth printing is someone with actual photos, and I dont think that will happen.

The first one with sky interior has normal DJ seats, its about to commence revenue services today down to MEL then up to SYD.

So sounds like the next one will be the launch aircraft.

I was checking in for a VA flight at LAX last August, and at no time was it referred to as 'V Australia'.

'Welcome to Virgin Australia, can I check you in?'
'Virgin Australia flight 8 is boarding through gate lounge 30'

etc.

Was quite humourous.
