I am traveling DJ BNE-SYD then MH SYD-KUL. DJ have issued an E-Ticket and MH have issued a paper ticket (all on the same itinery, booked through a travel agent).

Will DJ be able to check my bags straight through to KUL, or will I have to collect them in SYD and re-check with MH?

Also, how do you transfer from T2 to T1 when traveling DJ/MH, is it a case of jumping on the train? (I have only ever transfered on OW airlines).

Found this on the DJ website:
[qoute=DJ Website]Virgin Blue Domestic Transfer and Porter Service

For the convenience of our Guests, Virgin Blue offers a transfer and porter service to the domestic terminal from Sydney and Brisbane international terminals.

Guests who have pre booked connecting flights with our airline partners: Air Mauritius, Hawaiian Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Pacific Blue, Polynesian Blue, United and Virgin Atlantic have access to this service complimentary.

Guests who are connecting from other airlines or who have booked a domestic flight directly with Virgin Blue Airlines are welcome to use the convenience of the transfer and porter service for a small fee. Transfer services are available for AUD$5 per person or the transfer and porter services are available for AUD$15 per person.[/quote]

Does this translate into I get the transfer, I have to pay for the transfer, or the transfer is only avail. INT to DOM, and not return?

if you have 2 tickets then it would seem that you would have to pay for the transfer since the DJ connection had not been booked by MH but that you have 2 tickets, one from each airline. The details of that page only seem to details INT-DOM and no description of the DOM-INT facilities

With the same combination of tickets, QF would check your bags through to KUL, but could not check you in for the MH flight or issue a boarding pass. That would need to be done in SYD. I don't know if DJ will similarly tag the bags through, but they will not do the MH check-in.

Its possible the tickets are linked and corss reference each other. MH still do not do e-tickets, making it a pain sometimes. I have had a combination of QF e-ticket and MH paper ticket for the same itinerary and they were linked and both airline checked the bags to final destination (QF checked them to KUL via SIN, and MH checked them to BNE via SIN).

Well, if you are required to use the train, it's very easy and convient. I did much the same thing the other week, flew PER-SYD on DJ then went over to the International terminal to meet a friend who was flying in SIN-SYD on QF. I had no problems getting across there even with baggage, although I was a bit startled by the cost of it, I think it was $4.70, which is pretty steep for general public transport.

There's a list of ways to get between the terminals here:
Terminal Transfer
I'm guessing T-Bus operates in both directions.

Thanks for your knowledge.

Phoned DJ and they informed me that my tickets hadn't been "straightline coded" (or something similar) which basically means the travel agent has bought me 2 seperate tickets, which mean nothing to the other airline. Which means collect baggage at SYD, catch the bus/train to T1 (after parting with $5) and check-in at the MH counter.

This means that I will only be checking in approx 2-2.5 hrs before the flight (depending on DJ's on-time performance) which may reduce the already small chances of an op-up. Thinking of joining Enrich, phoning through my newly aquired Enrich number (Enrich blue is better than nothing), then giving my DJ number at check-in. (Risk loosing the DJ points vs increased chance of op-up). I'll let you know how it goes.
