As part of a convoluted SE Asian trek, am looking at getting to BKK via HKT on DJ ... not many direct options from PER and DJ offers the possibility of a J upgrade with points. However, EF is showing me this:

DJ 4149 0 PER 15/12/12 9:30 HKT 15/12/12 15:00 73H J7 W7 O7 H0 Y7 I7 D0 N0 B0 M0 S0 T0 A0 U0 X0 R0 L0 P7 C0 E0 F0

Hmm.

I've not done this route before on DJ, but am assuming that the 738 on offer is just a domestic config (yipes). Have been used to seeing H4 meaning 4 of the 8 J seats are open to business rewards. When H becomes 0 usually J becomes 4 (or less) as 4 seats are upgrades and as there are only 8 seats in total, then there are only 4 seats left for sale.

You will notice that the saver fares are completely sold out, Flexi still available (confirmed on the DJ site). Would this be no more mysterious than the management engine seeing economy fully sold and simply removing reward seats even though only 1 (or none) J seats have actually been sold? I'd have to ring DJ I think, but I'd like to assume that Q class, which is Flexi to Business upgrade, is probably coming from J stock rather than H stock.

Anyhoo, presuming that I find my way through that, anyone know what the lounge arrangements are at PER international? Looks like none at all to me, which would be pretty disappointing, but I hold my only hope on this at the very bottom of the Virgin Australia lounge access page:

As there is an SQ lounge at PER International, is it a vain hope to think I'd get access with a DJ Business ticket ??

Airline Lounges

I'm also flying this route in November in J, so I'm also hoping to be able to access the SQ lounge, although I'm not holding my breath :)

It's a pity DJ aren't in Star, as I'd say that flying with TG would be a much nicer experience, especially if its a day they fly direct.

Yes I agree. Whenever you actually want to leave the country, DJ's biggest weakness always stares you in the face. The 'quasi' alliance looks good on advertising and sounds fine ... until you actually try to use it.

Lack of consistent service levels, ie, lounges and whatnot, uncompetitive rewards redemption ... Earning FF through flying internationally....perhaps its a SE Asian thing as trying to feed FF points from ' partner' airlines is pretty difficult given so many deep discount fare on Asian carriers simply don't earn anything.

So, trying to be the good customer, I look at flying their own metal via HKT ... at least there is J class, but.... no lounge at the PER end? What the? Never liked the idea of 6.5 hours in a 737 anyway to be honest. So to use the SQ lounge in PER, it appears I need to be flying SQ metal ... which begs the question won't don't I just book with SQ? Generally cheaper and even with (most) deep discount fares I'll get at least a few Kris points.

Its all just too hard. I'll end up going the other way I think. MH offers good pricing to KUL, then there are super cheap intra Asia flights 100$ up to BKK. J options in local currency are very competitively priced and lounges available everywhere, even pay options if required.

Anyway, I've shot off an email to VA in relation to using the SQ lounge at PER when on a J ticket, we'll see what they say and I'll return here with the answer. The more I think about it though the less likely it seems that I'd be able to use the partner lounge when on DJ metal.

Did you end up getting a response on the use of the SQ lounge in Perth when flying DJ in J ?

Terribly sorry - I did say I'd come back to the thread.

Yes, I got an answer from DJ, took a couple of days, but thats ok. Unfortunately, as many would have suspected, no, there is no international lounge that can be used for DJ flights leaving from PER. I thanked them for their answer and provided feedback, that was written as no more than feedback (not nasty or whiney) that this was a factor in DJ not winning the business.

[EDIT: The premium asked for J on these 737's has surely got plenty of fat in it ... I'd have thought that if the PER port didn't carry enough traffic to sustain their own branded lounge then surely something could be arranged with SQ to use the Kris lounge]
