Good morning All.

Does anyone know how to find out what the rego of a plane is on a particular flight ?

I am thinking of flying from SYD-PER this Thursday on Virgin in J class and would like to fly in their new A330 planes with config of 2+2+2.

I believe their old planes have a rego of VH-XFA & VH-XFB from what I have found upon searching through this site.

The flights that I am currently looking at are DJ 551 and DJ 555. Is there an easy way to confirm which of these 2 flights are on their new metal ?

I have contacted the Platinum number but the lady was not too sure.

Can anyone assist with my enquiry?

Im not sure if you can check this before you book but the seat map will tell you when you do seat selection - the new J is 2-2-2 whilst the old J is 2-3-2.

Can you change flights once you book in J with no penalty?

While there may well be a rego pencilled in for those flights, access to that information would not be publically available. If it is on Thursday, it may well change as well, so I doubt anyone would be willing to guarantee anything about which aircraft operates which flights,

Current seat maps show DJ551 with 6 across and DJ555 with 7 across.

Could always book and change the day before if there is a aircraft swap.

If you have SG or WP status you can make a dummy Business class booking and to a pretend seat selection - this would reveal the seat map for the current scheduled aircraft. (Or if you know anyone with said status they can do so on your behalf).

Note that this only works within 14 days, and, as posted, the configuration may change.

Guys thank you for your quick reply.

I wasnt aware of this feature if you had status. I have logged in and done a dummy booking and at this stage, it seems dj551 is new and dj555 is old.

How close to actual flight time can the planes change?

Is it safe to assume that if the seat config is 2+2+2 (new) the night before will this not change?

Not really. :(

Flying PER-MEL earlier this year it wasn't till I was at the door of the plane that I realised a 738 had been subbed in for the old 332 (which had been subbed in for the new 332 earlier).

Sure that would be "the exception that proves the rule" - ==.

I expect DJ would have been very averse to do such a thing- however a 332 of Awesome/Broken config. being swapped for the newer would cause less anguish than a 73H.

I have found from experience to and from Sydney to Perth that the config changes regularly. However from about 2 days out it seems to stick.
