Received an alert on my phone, and saw this a few minutes ago:

Normally I find FlightRadar24 to be exceptionally accurate, particularly around Heathrow. The a/c squawked 7700 before returning to LHR, though the a/c position when on final approach is somewhat disturbing (as it isn't lined up with any of the runways at LHR, and the position of the 0ft reading is also troublesome). Does anyone familiar with this app have any first-hand experience with the reliability of the data provided? Whenever I've watched take-offs or landings at LHR through the app in the past, the position of each aircraft is always extremely reliable (and interesting to see when there is a queue for take-off).

Is this just a mis-read of the a/c position, or is this a dark day for DL (I sincerely hope it's the former)?

There seems to be no news out about it yet, so I would imagine it is just a glitch.

The radar position on FlightRadar24 is real world close rather than real world exact.
Most aircraft are pretty close to real world position, but it's not unusual for a plane to be incorrectly located.

It did return and has now departed again!

Thanks everyone! I'll keep that in mind next time I spot something odd! Nice to see that the flight eventually made it to ATL (just ~1.5hrs late) :)

Perhaps it returned because it was broadcasting incorrect data? A quick reboot of the GPS and away they went.

Wheres the smiley given they squawked 7700

if their systems thought they were somewhere else and they knew they were telling the world incorrect position information, then maybe they did think that was emergency enough :p:p:p (smileys added here as requested ;))
