Hi,

We are flying on the Qantas A380-800 from SYD to LAX in economy class.

Have purchased some kid-sized headphones for our toddler.

Do I need to find an adaptor so that her headphones will plug into the seat? Or do the A380 seats already have the right type of plug?

We've got an adaptor that came with our Bose headphones but will be using that one the Bose headphones, obviously.

If we do need an adaptor for her headphones, where do you recommend purchasing one?

Thank you

Im fairly certain you will need to get an adaptor, I got my last couple from Tandys or Di&k Smith, they only cost a couple of dollars

While the headphones distributed freely on board use a two-pronged connection (presumably so that people don't try and take them off the aircraft), the actual pins on the headphones are of the standard 3.5mm headphone size - and thanks to some innovation from either Qantas or Airbus, plugging in a standard pair of headphones (obviously into one plug only) still produces stereo sound without the need of an adaptor ;)

However, on most older non-A380 aircraft, you will need an adaptor to experience stereo sound... if you're only travelling on the A380 though (and not a 747), there will be no problems at all!

Also, I'm not sure if you've flown on the QF A380 before, however if you haven't, it's worth pointing out that AC power plugs are available in economy (one plug between two seats usually, and one plug per seat in the premium cabins), and each seat also has a USB connection (often hidden away in the tip of the armrest). The USB connection can either be used just as a power source (to charge an iPhone as an example), but can also be used to show personal media through the entertainment system (I'm not too sure about supported formats etc - someone else might be able to help you there)! :)

On a related note, is there an adaptor out there in the market for the 3-pronged headsets Qantas provide in Business class?

I bought the headset home with me thinking there would be an adaptor for it at Dick Smith; but obviously they are not as common as the 2-pronged ones.

How did you manage to get the J headset off the Qantas plane?

This happened to a friend of mine last year, was offered J headset in Y cabin, FA forgot to collect them before landing. Went to everyone electronics shop in Hong Kong looking for an adapter, no luck.

Hope its not considered stealing!:oops:

It was my first time travelling in Business and I just assumed, like the headsets in economy, you were allowed to take them with you, considering you paid for the seat, which would include the meal(s) and headphones as they wouldn't be re-used by the next passenger.

Love it, the joys of experiencing a J for the first time.

If it is like the 738s then you can only play photos through it...

Re 3 prong headphones. 1 is for left ear, 1 for right, and 1 for power. (for noise cancelling)

So you probably won't find an adaptor anywhere because the device you want to use the headphone with probably won't be out putting enough power anyway.
