Ok I have been manging to keep gold qff for years, even platinum pre gfc putting paid to a lot of overseas travel.
I live on the GC
No airline lounges now and the paid lounge is not worth the money.
I fly weekly from OOL to sydney or melb.
I see many of the same faces every week.
So no status creds on most jetstar fares.
RED on Virgin but have been trying to get to silver,at least a cheaper lounge membership....gotta say the virgin lounge in syd is way better than the qantas one.
so I can be very loyal over 40 flights a year, but most arent accruing me much status. If these airlines were serious about business travellers they should address this.

You can always fly JetFlex on JQ and get SCs (though that won't help with a lounge in OOL).

Or, if you are doing 80 segments a year, then at about $100-120 per segment, you'd get/keep Gold on Virgin and get lounge access for free.

Not sure what the problem is here (except lack of a lounge in OOL...)

I am guesing the actual spend on OOL-SYD/MEL flights is a lot less than $100-$120 per segment and 80 segments is not going to be anywhere enough for DJ Gold whereas 80 of the shortest segments on QF are more than enough for QF Gold.

Well, your choices really are:
1. make the trip to/from BNE and fly QF ex BNE
2. travel on JQ ex OOL on JetFlex fares
3. travel on Y+ fares on DJ

I do agree, though - I think it's appalling that QF mainline are no longer servicing OOL (and HTI, for that matter)
