Last weekend in a Hertz office, the ladies there asked politely for my autograph. I had a pretty good idea why, but was somewhat surprised as this has not happened to me for a number of years. When I asked them why they'd like my autograph, they replied "aren't you that cricketer"?
Let me say, cricket in my eyes, rates right up there with watching paint dry, so I was able to have a chuckle and assure them that no, I was not "that cricketer".
The reason I get this occasionally, is that I share a surname with a now retired cricketer, I'm a similar age, similar build (in fact his stocky build gave him his nickname) and some used to say I do look like him (although I don't see any resemblance myself). Frequently I use to hear, "your brother is in strife again with that Botham guy" so most people assumed I was his brother rather than him, but occasionally I would be asked for an autograph.
Simple logic, same surname, build, age.....must be him or must be related to him. (neither is true in my case)
How many others have had this happen?
