I am going from Perth to Darwin via Brisbane and was wondering if it is worth using online check in

Being that I will be transferring flights will the process still be as simple as it appears to be on the online demonstration or should i just check in at the airport

It is a matter of personal choice. Some, such as myself, prefer the proper airline issued boarding pass!

I do the same...I prefer to checkin online and find the seat I want and be able to recheck later if desired, but figured i'd rather use QF's toner and paper than mine.

So I am not alone after all. If I have used online checkin or the check in kiosks I get the boarding pass changed to the cardboard variety in the lounge.

These days I prefer not to checkin online and take my chances at the airport. Sometimes when I am at the airport early they have offered me a seat on an earlier flight. Not sure whether this would have happened if I had checked in online. I have many Friday night flights BNE-SYD booked for late evening departures and hoping I can get on an earlier flight at the airport on a cheap red e-deal.

I used to operate on that theory too, but QF have really refined online checkin over the last few months.

Now I check in online, get the best seat poss, then check on the QuickCheck kiosks @ the airport again - and John, they still offer you earlier flights if avail/allowed! Then I'll go to QF club if I'm not happy and check again. Its fantastic!

Exact same way I (and most of my colleagues) do it. :) I like the freedom to pick my own seat early, but can never be bothered printing my BP (or sometimes don't have access to a printer). Only if I'm likely to be in a HUGE hurry to get to the gate will I print it myself.

..and after seeing a colleague upgraded during OLCI, I have no doubts that OLCIing or not...it won't affect your chances of an upgrade. If you're destined to get one, you'll get one. :)

Cheers,
- Febs.

I didn't know they offered earlier flights if you had already check in online. I will keep that in mind as the checkin person said to me that the offering of alternate flights is at their discretion.

I hardly ever have a problem with seating allocation, generally get my preferred aisle seat row 4-6 737s most times, so I do not bother to look at my seat online.

Great to use to select your seats, however in some ports (Mount Isa) they still require you to get a boarding pass as they do not yet have the scanners :(. Even if you have carry on luggage they send you back to the queue to get a BP. It wouldn't be as bad if they had a check-in for business / WP etc..

Thanks for the info guys.

I didnt realise you can still ask for a boarding pass at the counter

Il give it a go when I check in tomorrow :)

I fly minimal domestic routes so don't have the option of checking in online. Frankly it has very limited appeal for me - even if they bring it in for int'l flights. When travelling I don't have direct access to a printer and spend minimal time at check in.

Just looking at T5 at LHR (a terrible terminal that I will discuss in my next TR) instead check in queues all I saw were queues for the "fast bag drop" - just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic...

how the ticket was acquired and what booking class is used has nothing to do with the ability to use OLCI. The restrictions relating to OLCI are:
  • not available for international flights or direct connections to international flights
  • my be an e-ticket
  • some temporary location restrictions while QF transitions to their new check-in application
