Hi Everyone,

I've been One World Sapphire (QF Gold) for the past few years and occasionally get op-up on other carriers in the alliance. Ive had op-Ups on CX, QF (naturally) and BA.

I wanted to ask if this happens with the Velocity program? Has anyone had an op up with Etihad, Air NZ or SQ.

I dont really fly domestically as I am based in Europe half the year however I am DJ Gold and will maintain it this year. I will qualify for QF Plat in the next month and was wondering whether to reach for the stars and go for DJ Plat.

Work sez I have to fly in Economy and i'm and constantly shuttling between Melbourne and Paris which makes me the ask the question as those op-ups sooth the pain a little.

I think your use of occasionally is very generous considering this post in April:

Hi There,

I wanted to ask if anyone ever receives upgrades as a QF gold member?

I was silver back in 2008 and was upgraded about three times on BA and QF, all on long haul flights either from LAX or LHR, then once I hit gold I have received nothing!! Ive been gold for the past three years now and not been upgraded once.

Cheers,

Super

I know that post seems to have been a good luck charm as I've had three since I posted it.......my faith has been restored.

No never had an op with any VA partner. They don't seem to have much weight within Europe or Asia when flying, and often then not most of the partners struggle with the reciprocal rules let alone upgrade because of status.

I think I am one of the rare ones. Last year SYD - FRA I was upgraded at the gate from AUH - FRA. I was on a Y+ from SYD tom AUH and Y from AUH - FRA. J with Etihad is very good however considering it is the only J international long haul I have been on I don't have a lot to compare with.

I've been G or GE on NZ for some years now and I've never got an op-up (NZ is WAAY too good at managing things!) so I suspect the chances for a aprtner elite are.... slim.

I'm VA Platnium and AirNZ GE - NZ have upped me from Y+ to J for my flight in 6 weeks, and its pretty rare to be on a VA flight and not be op-up if there is a spare seat
