Hi, Am booked Sunday Oct 10 on CX364 Hong Kong - Shanghai 747-400 with new long-haul product (74A) in J. Only J and Y is bookable on this flight - no F offered. Does anyone know if CX will "rope off" F cabin? Or will they seat pax in F cabin with J service. I called customer service to see if I could request seating in F but told N/A and remain in J cabin.

The day before CX operates this flight with 2 class A330 and the day after 2 class B777.

Cheers for any assistance :)

Never mind folks I found this on FlyerTalk CX FAQ. I have *A elite status but not OW elite status, so looks like remaining in J behind F but will enquire at check-in. If anyone can offer additional advice then that would be great too!

4.3 I am travelling Business Class on a two-class (J/Y) flight being operated by a three-class (F/J/Y) aircraft. Can I get a seat in the First Class cabin?
Generally you require some sort of Marco Polo elite status or oneworld elite status although anecdotal evidence has suggested that if you are on a oneworld RTW ticket in First, that may suffice. Previously if you fell into one of these categories you would be able to reserve a seat in the F section at time of booking, but it appears that CX control are now keeping F seats blocked for assigning at checkin.

You can try requesting these seats at time of booking - if you can get them, great; if you can't, try at the airport.

Part of the reason why CX will only allocate these seats to its frequent flyers is that while the food is still Business Class, the crew usually close the curtains between the cabins and there is a dedicated crew tending to the F section. In short, while it is not marketed as such, there is an element of better service in the F cabin even though it is strictly sold as J.

Please note that the F cabin is not always open for seating on two-class flights. Safety regulations require that each cabin be manned by separate crew members, and if crew control have adjusted crewing levels to reflect lighter loads, the F cabin may be closed because there is simply not the crew to man it.

IME the F cabin will be left empty and J pax will remain in the J cabin.

I would have thought it’d depend on the loadings.

I realise it’s 5 months out, but this gives a little indication so far. Lots still to sell.
