Arrival punctuality across the Australian domestic regular public transport airline network fell, with 23.6 per cent of flights at least 15 minutes late compared with 20 per cent of August 2018 arrivals.
Cancellations increased hugely from 1.5 per cent in August 2018 to 2.6 per cent in August 2019.
VA won on arrivals punctuality for its mainline routes with 23.7 per cent of such flights officially late, whereas QF had 26,5 per cent of its mainline flights officially tardy.
QF's cancellation rate at 4 per cent was not far off being double that of VA's, at 2.4 per cent. Some of this may be due to QF's higher frequencies but I doubt it explains everything.
An astounding 9.1 per cent of MEL - SYD flights (and 8.6 per cent in the southbound direction from SYD) were cancelled. Some will have been due to adverse weather but low bookings, despite what TheInsider continually claims, must be a contributing factor at times.
Timekeeping on MEL - SYD northbound was appalling with all the four airlines having between 33.4 and 40.3 per cent of flights arriving in SYD 15 minutes or more late. QF cancelled 10.9 per cent of its MEL - SYD northbounds while TT ditcherd 12.2 per cent. If all of the QF cancellations were when it publishes a 15 minute frequency, in theory that's not so bad but in practice, multiple flights may be cancelled so sometimes there's none for 45 minutes or more.
Southbound SYD - MEL timekeeping was similarly poor (QF had 35.3 per cent of its flights officially late - 15 minutes or more - and cancellation rates sky high, with QF cancelling 10.4 per cent and TT 11.4 per cent of scheduled flights.
Sadly our politicians continue to fail to plan, fund and build much needed high speed rail between Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, Newcastle, Gold Coast and Brisbane.
