Virgin Australia beat Qantas for punctuality in June 2019 while Qantas led in the percentage of cancellations:
Across the carriers, MEL - SYD - MEL cancellations remained terrible at 6.1 to 6.2 per cent.\
I bet some were due to low bookings, not just bad weather or aircraft failures.
Northbound from Melbourne to Sydney, 28 per cent of Qantas flights were at least 15 minutes late while Virgin Australia had 21.2 per cent at least this late. JQ had 30.4 per cent of operating flight 15 or more late while for TT the northbound figure was 36.3 per cent.
Southbound from SYD down to MEL, QF cancelled 91 of its flights - 8.9 per cent of the ones it advertised. Appalling.
From SYD to BNE northbound, all airlines had fewer than 21 per cent of flights less than 15 minutes late.
Media continue to ignore this unacceptable performance.
Other nations build high speed rail for similar distances and travel explodes in number of trips as passengers love the 99 per cent on time performance, city centre to city centre rail offering (often with another stop in the suburbs for those who live or work out there, or who drive to the station) and comfort on board.
Yet in backwards Australia, our MPs decline to build high speed rail as delayed airline passengers suffer largely narrowbody B738s and A320s.
If parliamentarians are on VIP flights they don't have to put up with the numerous delays and cancellations, and even on regular flights they're in the Chairman's Lounge or The Club so they just have another drink in uncrowded surrounds.
