Hey team can someone remind me if you need to collect bags when transferring from domestic to international at LAX? Connecting from AA onto QF.

Cheers

no, assuming thru checked to destination

I agree. Sometimes you don’t get the INT boarding pass at the domestic checkin and you need to collect at lax lounge or gate. This way you can move from domestic to international via tunnels (airside).

Technically you can do that without a BP if you’ve arrived on a domestic flight - since you’re already “airside”. But I’d be surprised if one didn’t get all BPs checking in (assuming all same ticket) and bags have been checked through.

Alaskan in Las Vegas couldn’t provide my LAX to MEL pass. All on one ticket, but was issued at lax oneworld lounge.

Had no issues getting my boarding pass for QF12 today from Alaskan for whatever it’s worth.

Only time I've had issues getting all boarding passes was shortly after border restrictions were relaxed and the dreaded DPD was in force - flying from AUS through DFW, the agent in AUS was unable to issue the boarding pass for the DFW-MEL leg (thankfully QF stationed someone in the AA lounge once we reached Dallas to avoid going land side).

As long as it's the one PNR and any luggage is booked through, no worries.
Separate PNRs with luggage - need to collect luggage and take it to TBIT.
Separate PNRs with HLO- use the airside connector from T4 to TBIT and collect your BP, if required, from the Oneworld or QF FLounge.

Maybe talking to the wrong person at AS in LAS? Lazy/incompetent/poor training?

More likely ‘wouldn’t provide’ rather than ‘couldn’t provide’. No fault on your part.

Had a similar experience at PDX as this but asked to speak to a manager (baggage issues as well as onward ticketing). Within 2 minutes she sorted it, provided PDX-LAX and LAX-SYD BPs and acknowledged OW Sapphire baggage rights.

AS were happy to do exactly this from LAS a few months ago, and on separate bookings too, so definitely just the wrong person
Or a bank error in your favour. AS stopped interlining bags on different PNRs (AS to OW) as of April this year. We were connecting from SFO via LAX - some of our group got lucky (no status) while others (WP/SG so probably a more experienced check in agent) were refused, it was just as the change was made so staff at SFO were still not fully across the new policy. I asked to see the new policy and they showed me. FWIW it was end of April.

If on the one ticket: yes. If not: no.

Last time I did JFK-LAX-BNE I had booked first leg via a redemption (QF) and then QF paid for second leg. Still wasn't able to be through-checked. Which was a bit painful having to wait at LAX for QF checkin to open...

Time before that was LAS-LAX-SYD-BNE all on the one QF ticket and checked all the way through (collect in SYD for customs, then dropped at transfer).

When you check in make sure to say you want the bags checked to SYD. I’ve had Delta do this from a separate booking. I then picked up boarding passes to SYD from the one world lounge in LAX.
