Hi all,

Just a quick question if someone could help me.

I booked a flight to Cairns tomorrow in whY (personal travel) which leaves from International Terminal at Sydney airport.

I am a WP FF and want to use points to upgrade.

Now I know this flight follows on to Japan and I am worried that people who have asked for their upgrade all the way to Japan will get their upgrade and I wont have a chance to do so at the F lounge in the morning (if this is possible!).

Has anyone had any success doing this? Should I change my flight to one leaving T3 instead where I am on a level playing field with everyone else?

Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

As this is seen as an international flight, the international upgrade rules apply. So no On Departure upgrades are available. And so you must waitlist for an upgrade, and that must be requested more than 24 hours before departure. So if the flight is less than 24 hours away, you are to late.

I believe if the OP is only flying to CNS he will be able to ODU. I have suceeded in the past.

ok thanks - but what about the fact that people have waitlised for an upgrade? There may be no seats anyway for me.

I tried waitlisting for the flight yesterday (i rang qantas as soon as I had made the booking) and they wouldnt let me because you cant waitlist for a domestic upgrade.

Should I just move to the next flight out of T3?

The aircraft running the international flight is likely to be a lot more comfortable!

According to the QF FF terms and conditions for upgrades, you can request an ODU from the Qantas Club lounge for domestic legs of international flights. So your only option is to request an ODU at the lounge tomorrow.

Just for the record... no probs at F lounge this morning upgrading - but the lounge lady couldnt stress to me enough that this can only be done on domestic sectors... if i was going through to Tokyo it would not be possible.

PS - two thumbs up for the F Lounge... QF have done well with it. Especially like the restaurant like service!

be really careful on your class of flight ie:ticket
some fares they just wont let you upgrade
I think needs to be J or better
I got really peeved when as a platinum flyer they wldnt let me upgrade on a syd manila flight with points
i had to phone qtass and pay another 100 bucks to get that fare class
after paying 2.5k for an econ ticket that is normally 1000!!!!
they seem to be slipping new rules and regs in everywhere

The rules are that you can't upgrade from N, O, Q, E class fares:
Frequent Flyer - Using Points - Flight Upgrades - About Flight Upgrades

It has been that way since 2005 (if I recall correctly). It is *not* a new rule.

Why dig up an old and now irrevelant thread, the only domestic legs departing from the international terminal are QF81 and that is gone shortly, its been a long time since QF operated INT to Cairns!
