Hi, VFF flyers, I have done a search but to no avail specifically regarding my last couple of questions regarding where the points come from. I am trying to make sure I have the upgrade process locked down before making a booking. Looking at MEL-OOL. Can members do a sanity check on the below and let me know what is correct/incorrect?


  1. MEL-OOL is in the 601-1200 mile band so will be 7,400 points per person to upgrade from a Flexi fare.
  2. Check there are standard business class reward seats available for the flight.
  3. If yes, book the flexi fares and get ticketed
  4. Call up and request the upgrade

Booking is for myself and my partner.

On point 4:
  1. Is it possible for the 2 x 7,400 points to come only from my account? I have been pooling all of her points in to my account so she doesn't have any at the moment.
  2. If my partner does the booking is it possible to upgrade us using 2 x 7,400 points from my account?

To ensure upgrades are ACTUALLY available you need to:

1. Ring call centre.
2. Go through booking process online while on hold on the phone.
3. Stop at payment confirmation page.
4. Confirm with call centre re upgrade availability. Don't hang up.
5. Once availability confirmed confirm payment and give call centre booking number.


Points all come from one account.

The member who has the points will need to call to do the upgrade. You can do for all others in the same booking

Thanks for the advice. So if I wanted to I could upgrade someone on a totally different booking with my points? No issue there?
